Sorry dont feel like searching through the pages, but
supposedly the ports to forward if you are using a router and having lag trouble are 5406 and 5036, both TCP.
These were both collected from other forums so they might not work perfectly but my gameplay experience was slightly better once I put them in.
How do I use a port? I share a router with my roomies. Maybe this is why I lag a lot.
Well if you're sharing it with a lot of people so it will lag regardless. Usually you open ports because a program or something doesnt have full permission or something through your router. I dont really know the exact definition but its something like letting it through a firewall.
With that said, here's how to forward a port anyway.
To open a port, open up the main page to your router (type it's IP address in the address bar). If you dont know the address of your router, open up the command prompt and type ipconfig then press enter. The number you're looking for is the "Default Gateway".
Once you open up your routers main page, it might ask you to log in. Not all routers are the same, some require you to make a password before you use it or sometimes the default is just blank. You might not even have to log in, I dont know.
Anyway, once youre able to do something, look for something on the page like "Games & Applications" or "Virtual Servers".
Youll find a screen similar to this (if in English...)
Belkin (mine)
Linksys
It will differ of course according to your brand of router.
Ok, now you know where that is. Next you want to search for a DHCP Client list, to find out what your own computer's particular IP address is.
It will be something similar to this.
Belkin
If you use a Linksys router use this path
Hopefully you made a unique name for your computer, that way youll easily identify it among the others on the list. If not, turn all other machines off and that should leave only yours the one on the list.
Remember the IP address assigned for your computer.
Now, go back to the port forwarding page and input the port numbers under Inbound port and Private port or the ranges like on the Linksys one. Just use the pictures as an example.
Switch the protocol to both. I saw a few posts saying they were both TCP only but the example pictures had both protocols chosen so Id just choose both.
Now, enter your computers assigned IP address into the bar for the specific address.
Hit Apply or Save or whatever button there is to keep these settings.
I believe that's all you have to do in order to forward ports. Please correct me if I'm wrong or missed anything.
If there are any other ports you wish to open for othr things (like Xbox Live or PSN), visit this site.
PortForward
This website even has an extensive list of different brands of routers and has guides for each of them (I believe)
Good luck and have fun!
