Pretty drastic improvement from [though still great] Oblivion. Visuals, voices and gameplay alike. Tons of stuff to do. Exploitable, and often hilarious glitches and bugs that tend to help the player more than hurt them.
Dunno. Don't really want to make a long winded speech about it. But really, it's stolen more of my time than most games this year. Save for Dark Souls, which is fucking grand. And really, when it comes down to it, what makes a game good is how long it can keep a hold on its buyers.
I am going have to say Skyrim, it is the one game that has consumed most of my gaming time lately. Plus there is also the fact (in my case at least) of it is the one game where no matter where you go if you have a conversation about video games everyone has played/owned/is talking about/or is aware of Skyrim. It is rare to see a game have that much saturation in the gaming community these days.
Seriously, that game blew my mind. It has a unique setting, awesome narrative and intriguing story. Not to mention one of the best musical scores I've heard in quite a while.
Im gonna have to boil it down to Dark Souls.
I wanted so badly to vote for Batman:AC, but Dark Souls ultimately has my heart in this area. Dark Souls takes my love, hatred, rage, greed, fear, & reflexes, then uses them all against me in the most hurtful way possible (raise your hand if you got raped in the forest by stone golems & man eating trees because of the ever ellusive "shiny") and then continues to tickle my masochistic taste for difficult games by giving me over the top bosses & even more minibosses in the most inconvenient places possible.
Also, its the first game to make me do personification art for a boss.
Also, lol at the somewhat misleading advertisement that actually tells you what youre going to experience.
Dark Souls from what ive played.
That game needs DLC though and a proper multiplayer.
Other than that its solid and an all around great challenge for gamers.
Good God, its tough. I have loved Dark Souls and Skyward Sword. However, I still haven't played some of them like Arkham City, Skyrim and Uncharted 3 so I'm going to reserve my judgment till then. I have them but haven't had time to play them yet. As of now, after analyzing those two games, I'd have to say its Dark Souls. I haven't enjoyed a game such as that for quite a time. The game's challenge, the feeling of coming back for more everyday, the awesome and challenging boss fights. That being said, although I feel its a little irresponsible of my part without playing the other games first, I'd give my vote to Dark Souls, though that's not saying Zelda is a bad game by any means.
Battlefield 3s improvement over BFBC2 is impressive but im going to have to vote Skyrim for GOTY 2011!
Not usually the type of game I go for TBH but its just so accessable for 'new gamers' you can just pick it up and play it regardless of whether you're good at RPGs or not.
Skyrims also so pretty that im never bored just walking around doing side quests, Looking at the scenery. Doesn't feel like a grind fest or a chore... A real pleasure to play! :D
Meh, only played two games out of the OP's list lol.
Dark Souls and Skyrim, both glorious game. I listed Dark Souls as my game of the year the day the very first trailer came out, but then I took a Skyrim in the knee.
Jokes aside, Skyrim was my first "Elder's Scroll" game. I tried Morrowind back in the days and I totally didn't like it but then I decided to give the latest bethesda game a try and then... I took the ride of life.
I kinda have to say Skyrim, but mainly cuz I dun think it has reached it's full potential yet (that won't happen until the Construction Kit gets released), but a worthy runner-up would be Bastion, that game is AWESOME.
