So after all of this- Which do you prefer ? the original 7 team battle royale holy grail war or the tournament style Moon Cell holy grail war?
original: chance to survive even if you lose , and if you lose a servant you could make new contract with a servant who lost his/her master.
moon cell : you lose you die , you can't find cypher keys you die , you attack someone on campus- penalty or you die(if you attack an even stronger master) , use all your command seals you die.
Kinda biased, since they're so many variables left out from the original.
examples:
-Chance to be one of the 7 chosen ones is slim.
-Chance of not dieing is not low either.
-Chance of making a new contract is also low.
-If you don't have plot armor you die... lol
Hahahaa~! Very true. Plus you have to realize that, in a competition to the death, the more rules the better. I mean, look at what Shinji and secretly Caster were doing in Fate. They managed to gain more power (well, one of them) from taking lives. While they could still gain power from Alterations and such (though they didn't have to since the masters were all better than you when it came to having enough magic and knowing what they were doing...even Shinji's pathetic ass), there was at least zero possibility of any of your loved ones being casualties of your enemy's design.
If I for some insane reason logged into the Moon Cell to get a piece of the action, I sure as all get out would want to make sure my
Fuji-nee teacher and
Sakura friend(potential lover?) were safe from the bloodshed.
Oh, and no rape. Though I
only abide my the magnificent Fate Route of FS/N, at least your opponent/opponent's Servant/enemy solo Servant can't try to put his dick in you or your Servant just for fun.
That's always a plus.

Actually it is quite a tough choice because in Extra you have a week to get info and already know who you are about to fight where as in the original you never know who you may fight or where.
Also true.
On that note, I have to say that of all Fate related material, Fate/EXTRA is my absolute favorite because it really pushes forth the biggest tactic that I feel should have been implemented Fate story to begin with: information is power.
_When I was told that during FSN I thought the story would turn into part-action, part-mystery plot. Badass! ...But it didn't.
While I really enjoy FSN immensely and adore the climactic revelation and ending to the Fate route, I never liked how they didn't seem to figure out how to put knowing their enemy's identity to good use. You know, like bringing up something about their past to screw with their heads or, ala Extra, try to figure out their attack patterns judging by their personalities and battle history.
It was more like:
"Oh, I know that you're Gilgamesh!"
Gilgamesh: "And?"
"...Nothing. Just wanted to say I knew you."
I bet bringing up Enkidu or mentioning how he changed into a better man before he died would've fucked up his villainous stride. He'd be all, "Oh, right, thanks to Enkidu and a few others I didn't care about immortality or power in the end and stopped being a self-absorbed rapist tyrant. ...What the hell am I doing here?"
Anyway, though there are more possibilities for survival in the classic Holy Grail War system, I like the rules of the new system better, so if I had to condemn myself to a Holy Grail War, it'd be Extra's.
Plus, you know... Saber Extra Red and all...
