I'll have to link you a page when I get home but I've proved that they do several times before. its sort of a loop hole in the explanation that lead people to believe that they can't. Couldn't find the link so will explain below.
"Fate/Strange Fake is an approved Fate/stay night fanfiction intended to be the introduction for a role playing style game by Narita Ryougo, author of Baccano. Not canon to the Nasuverse, the full text was originally posted to Narita's homepage under the title of "Fake/states night", presented as a prologue to a game as an April Fool's joke" - Quoted from wiki
Now to explain the main point after reading my post about them retaining memories I wasn't very specific which may have caused a misunderstanding so let me explain in better detail.
A servant is summoned into a vessel that acts as one of the servant classes when the war ends the memories do not remain with the vessel and are sent to the servant outside of the time axis. If the same servant were to be summoned it would be a new vessel for its specified class thus only retaining the same memory as the spirit recorded in the Throne of Heroes. Arturia and EMIYA are exceptions because they are counter guardians. So in short ALL servants retain their memories but their vessels do not.
I just wanna add on to your statement just to make things simple. Servants do have memories however that's when they are inactive [without a manifested body] in the HGW. When summoned, they acquire a manifested body however they will not remember their memories of the past HGW if they participated. Except for Saber due to her lusting desire for the Holy Grail. Because of that, she gets to participate in every HGW until she finally wins the HGW. That is also the reason how she is able to remember the past HGW (the 4th HGW proven so far [Kiritsugu's Servant]).
Replaying the Saber route should clarify things like now much more.
Well actually Arturia isnt restricted to the Grail War she is able to move to any point in time where an attempt for the grail is legitimately made however she van only manifest once per attempt and if more than one happens at the same time she can only choose one.
It's almost as if you're hinting the original HGW and the virtual HGW could happen at the same time in parallel universes. lol
Well here it another question: which HGW would better serve as the Holy Grail that King Arturia wishes for the most? The Holy Grail from the 5th HGW is a fake one, in all three routes. The one in the virtual HGW could be the Holy Grail, manifested by Se.Raph, which actually has the power to grant wishes, but they're are all in data (at least from the Protagonist). I'm not sure if data itself can can apply itself in real life. Dan Blackmore's wish was to
Lil' Ronnie wishes for
all of humanity to understand her, so she wishes for them to be like her.
Monji Gatou wishes for
his servant to be a true deity/ a real force of the gods.
and so and so forth.
If so, would King Arturia's wish for the Holy Grail truly apply if the virtual HGW's victory was obtained?
My personal answer to this would be no, because mere electronic data can not change the legends and the history of any Heroic Spirit, nor could it do anything about their wishes and desires. And the virtual HGW seems to be more centered around the Master themselves instead of granting both Master's and Servant's wishes.
My little train of thought.
