[size=14]TGS2008 Leaked Footage[/h]
Alright guys, heres Accurate translation (CERTIFIED BY ONIME-NO-ENISHI) of the extended footage leaked from TGS2008. An uneditted version of the full trailer is near impossible to find (if not impossible) anymore as Square Enix seems to be pulling the "copyright" card and bringing every single one of them down (some should still be lurking somewhere). And yes, I am aware that this isn't new, but I am also aware that most people dont even know about this ;o
For those who haven't watched it yet, this is the video:
P.S: It is EXTREMELY hard to find an uneditted video so i only took a vid which had the entire conversation in. There are no voices at all as voice actors aren't decided yet. Also, there are translations in that youtube vid but i suspected it was inaccurate, and my suspicions were correct when i proceeded to inspect every single word/sentence that was spoken, thus I provided the much more accurate translation below: *Scene starts with feet landing on a flight of stairs*
"There is nothing either good or bad. but thinking makes it so." ~ William Shakespeare *Noctis climbs up the flight of stairs and unexpectedly sees someone already there, staring at a painting* *Person turns around and gives a purrdy smile (look at my avatar ;D)* Stella: "Noctis-sama, you can see the Light, can't you?" Stella: "I can see it too" *Stella catches Noctis's attention* *Stella walks towards Noctis and Noctis walks away in reaction, like the tsundere he is xD* Stella: "That was what you were looking at from downstairs, right?" Noctis: "Pretty much, When did you start seeing it?" Stella: "Since I was a child..." Noctis: "A near death experience?" Stella: "Noctis-sama too?" Noctis: "That's how it usually begins." *Camera pans towards the painting* Stella: "The Goddess Etro opens the gate to the afterlife, welcoming the souls of the dead." Stella: "When that occurs, a bright light shines through the skies from the land of the dead." *Camera returns to the two* Stella: "Rare individuals are able to see this light, and those who do, obtains 'power'." Stella: "That's the story that's passed down in Tenebrae." Noctis: "It's the same here." Stella: "Noctis-sama, do you possess this 'power'?" Noctis: "No, I need no such a thing." Noctis: "I'm fine the way I am." Stella: "I agree!" Stella: "No matter what kind of power it is... if it's at the cost of somebody's life..." Stella: "It would give me nightmares..." Noctis: "Same. It's a ridiculous bedtime story... You shouldn't talk to other people about the light" Stella: "Why's that?" Noctis: "Being different from others causes alot of trouble..." *Noctis Sits* Noctis: "Don't you agree?" Stella: "But if it's just a bedtime story..." Stella: "What do you think the light really is?" Noctis: "It's just something that's there" Noctis: "Isn't that good enough?" *Noctis stands* Noctis: "uh..." Stella: "Stella" Noctis: "Stella, I'll be taking my leave soon." Stella: "Sorry for taking up your time, Noctis-sama." Noctis: "Noct is fine" Stella: "Well, I'll be leaving too." *Stella walks away but stops and turns around* Stella: "I feel like I've received something from the light tonight." Stella: "...I got a chance to speak with you." Noctis: "Hah, now you'll have nightmares." Stella: "You're mean aren't you, Noctis-sama" Noctis: "Noct" Stella: "You should come to Tenebrae some time. I'll show you around." Noctis: "That sounds interesting, I'll think about it." *Stella Leaves* Unknown: "Who are you?" Noctis: "That's my line..." *Noctis leaves* FINAL FANTASY versus XIII (yea i know i dont really need to translate this, but i dont care) Credits go to myself, a Chinese colleague of mine, and Ero-sensei for the translations. (Chinese readers are awesome at helping out with Kanji ;D) My Japanese lessons are paying off.
Because I know I'm not awesome with Japanese, I spent over a week constantly verifying every single sentence to ensure that it is accurate to every single tiny detail (with accuracy to the context as well).
Analysis: Noctis Lucis Caelum:
Tetsuya Nomura seems to be holding true to his words about the characters being "more than you think". The one thing that caught my attention right away was Noctis's wordplay.
First, this is an extract of what Stella said earlier in the conversation: Stella: "No matter what kind of power it is... if it's at the cost of somebody's life..." Stella: "It would give me nightmares..."
Then towards the end of their encounter: Stella: "I feel like I've received something from the light tonight." Stella: "...I got a chance to speak with you." Noctis: "Hah, now you'll have nightmares."
Noctis remembered what she said earlier in the conversation and brought it up, teasing her about getting a nightmare, since she "obtained something from the light, no matter what kind of power it is".
Stella picks up on his wit and then replies with: Stella: "You're mean aren't you, Noctis-sama"
That alone already differentiates himself from whoever everyone first thought he resembles. Cloud would have gone "...", Squall would have thought to himself "(Whatever...)", and sasuke would have been "Illida- i mean, Itachi is out there somewhere...."
The other interesting bit is his reply to the unknown entity. Unknown: "Who are you?" Noctis: "That's my line..."
The exact words of that entity were: Unknown: "Anata ----------- dare?"
with a prolonged sentence. Giving a hint that it's not spoken normally, its a little dragged. Thanks to the direction of where noctis was facing, the angle of the camera, and the way the unknown voice spoke, I assume its the voice of one of the dead, like how zombies in western culture goes "Braaaaaaaaiiiiiiiinss". That being said, they can not only see the light emitted by the dead, they can pretty much hear them.
Noctis then replies casually with "That's my Line..." and then walks off, indicating that this is a rather common occurence to him and he doesn't even care about whoever or whatever is talking to him. However, whether or not they can communicate with the dead is unknown (very high probability that if they can hear them, they can talk to them as well, but theres no solid proof of this as of yet).
It is interesting that the lines he spoke in this encounter isn't the lines spoken by someone who is shy, however, his body language gives off a completely different vibe. He is obviously agitated by someone, or something. Maybe its the shyness he is feeling when being alone with someone (so purrdy ~<3), he is anxious of something not yet revealed to the viewer, or it might be because he is aware of the 3rd entity that appeared in the end, especially since Stella doesnt seem to be aware of it.
However, judging from the interviews with Tetsuya Nomura, I would say the most probable reason for his body language is because of his shyness, so he tries to act all calm and cool. This is backed up by typical human psychology. When he walked up the stairs, he didn't expect someone to be up there; and Stella unexpectedly struck a conversation with him as well. Not so soon after such a sudden meeting, she proceeded to get closer to him, so as a self-defense mechanism, he instantly faced away from her so as to hide his shyness as he isn't prepared to face her yet, thus walking on as though its natural (pretending to be calm and cool). It was only until after sometime into the conversation is his "shy shield" fully set up then he slows his pace down to sit down and face her (in a way).
Also, when Stella was leaving he was seen approaching her a little but stopped, whether or not this was pushed by his sub-concious or he conciously did it and stopped himself (due to shyness) is unknown, but it can be derived that from this meeting alone Noctis is at the very least "a little" interested in Stella from this behaviour.
With this encounter alone, one can tell that Noctis isn't your average "Cloud" or "Squall" or "Emo boy". As much as he may be trying to act all cool and calm, he does butt in a playful joke and he DOES smile despite being shy ;D Stella Nox Fleuret:
From this vid, you can tell that Stella is indeed a direct kind of girl, you can pretty much directly see her honest intentions throughout the vid; shes just friendly, curious, and bubbly. She definitely isnt the type to be shy too. Throughout the conversation, you can tell that she is a very polite girl, referring to the more polite way of saying things, and addressing Noctis as "-sama" even though he's been telling her to just call him "Noct". She seems friendly and outgoing, as she was the one who first engaged Noctis, and she's quite bubbly throughout the conversation.
Nothing special that wasn't already mentioned was shown in this vid, perhaps maybe that she is abit flirtatious too =p when she said: Stella: "I feel like I've received something from the light tonight." Stella: "...I got a chance to speak with you."
She can be seen as somewhat innocent/naive when they were talking about the light, with her not realizing that talking to other's about the light would probably put a distance between herself and regular people. In fact, this is pretty much hinted at, in most of what she says.
She is surprisingly unlike Aerith as is the common conception. She is, however more akin to Rinoa. When Stella walks, her hands are clasped behind her back like Rinoa, and like Rinoa, she jumps when she gets excited and agrees with Noctis. It's too early to say that she is based on Rinoa (which I highly doubt), but that's what we can see from what's shown in the vid.
I still am curious as to what Tetsuya Nomura meant when he said that Stella will be the first Final Fantasy heroine to stand out amongst all the previous Final Fantasy heroines. Overall:
One thing that struck me odd in their conversation is that it is as though they have not gotten their power yet. It is either that, or they are ignorant of their powers, which is quite odd since Stella can see the light when she was a child (presumeably, Noctis too).
The one explanation I can think of that is most probable is that they are not aware of their powers yet, and it's probably lying dormant until something triggers it to awake, like some anime-esque desperate moment super charge-up or something.
Noctis interests me more from this vid, as he seems quite witty and well, tsundere shy xD I cant wait for more info.
And of course: STELLA IS HAWT!! ~<3 all hail Stella!!!
I hope you enjoyed this analysis, do tell if theres anything missing, or if I have mistranslated ;D
The moment I saw this game's teaser, I felt that it would be better than XIII, imo at least. I love the designs, the characters, and the whole premise of it revolving around four brothers.
I have been waiting anxiously for some gameplay, and I expect to see some at the Tokyo Game Show.
Didn't read through your entire translation yet, Onime, so I'll get on that now. XP
You sure do a lot of up keep on this game Onime-no-Enishi.
I put up updates to whatever topic of a game I start, but you just beyond. I'll rep ya and put some of them on the front page.
thanks =p i'm really looking forward to this game, so I'm actively scouring the net for any new information I can possibly find xD
About the translation vid, for some reason, fakku wont make me link youtube vids properly, it keeps screwing up the link whenever i save the edit, so for those who want to see the vid, i editted the original post and included a link, or you can click here.
Final Fantasy versus XIII
Final Fantasy agito XIII
and
The Third Birthday (TTB) (Parasite Eve spin-off)
Voice casting nearing completion for TTB, and voice casting for FFvXIII has begun.
Now for a more disappointing news:
TGS2010 will feature trailers for FFvXIII and FFaXIII MERGED into 1 single trailer, which lasts about a minute long.
Footage for FFvXIII will be what was shown in the famitsu magazine, so it means we get gameplay videos, but they wont show menus or stuff, in simpler words, we get to see what we already saw in a magazine >>; Agito XIII will get new footage, so that we can look forward to.
The other bad news is that the trailers will not be released publicly and will only be shown in the monitor by SE's booth during TGS 2010, this means itll be really hard for us online-ers to get a glimpse of the trailer, lets hope someone managed to sneak a camera in and get a good view of the trailer.
Looking at the rate this is going, FFvXIII isnt gonna come out anytime soon. Nomura also stated that there will be numerous yet unnamed/unknown games that will be released prior to FFvXIII or FFaXIII, meaning we will probably wait a few more years before we can hope to get a release D=
Somehow, I wouldn't mind if they delayed it a little longer. I mean, I've already waited 5 years. If they need more time to perfect their game, so be it.

Not frustrated at all hearing these news.
Making sure that it's not the same as FF 13 looks is a hard job I guess.
well, at least it will be a perfect release, wiht no bugs or any defects in it.
One might want to change the title of this thread by removing "ps3 exclusive".
You heard me.
Square enix is currently recruiting level designers for their game. Now that's a good thing, it means that they're highering the pace up.
The most interesting part is that they are looking for programmers knowledgeable on both PS3 and 360 system.
