I never got to finish that final DLC map. The supposed hardest one...
I don't understand this DLC adoration I keep seeing in various places. I need an explanation for the appeal of these "maps." I refuse to lower my standards just because this is the 3DS, and having seen the maps available in the Outrealm Gate along with their prices, this is clearly Nintendo milking the shit out of this game with exorbitantly priced, trivial additions. $3 for what is basically 1 map? Activision had packs of about 5 CoD maps released for $15 and they were clearly taking the piss with that price. The bundle pricing doesn't make me feel any better. I had to apply XCOM tactics to play this game properly, so I'll compare it to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. There's a DLC for EU called Slingshot. It's basically 3 (mostly) scripted missions (i.e., maps) where you do precisely what you always do during any other mission: move squad, then kill aliens. At the end you get a unique soldier. It costs $7. I bought it for about a buck when EU was on sale. I don't value map packs very highly.
The only DLC that seems to be somewhat worth it is "EXPonential Growth." "The Golden Gaffe," however, just seems like pay2win. I understand the desire to grind in order to power level weaklings, but being showered in money with minimal effort is basically cheating. Would it not break the game if you were to easily fully upgrade every single weapon?
Aside from that, I'm hooked. This is my first FE game and I'm playing classic normal. I've seen suggestions elsewhere that I should probably do my first playthrough on casual, but the changes made to the game's internal rules would have an egregious effect on the strategies I decide to implement. If no one died I could easily suicide bomb bosses and any battle's tension would evaporate.
There was a point in Chapter 5, the one where king dickhead starts a war, where I had to block a bottleneck in the mountains and put Lon'qu in a spot where I anticipated him being attacked twice and surviving. I didn't have enough foresight, however, to notice that he would murder his melee attacker, thus leaving a spot open for a third assailant.
This was me when the third guy attacked Lon. I watched that battle sequence the way new yorkers in tall office buildings watched 9/11, but motherfucking Lon masterfully dodged the attack, did that squinty-eye jap shit in the center of the screen (which promptly led to the attacker shitting himself), and crit killed the cunt in slow-mo. This experience was brought to you by classic mode.
Oh yes, one last thing:
Chrom & Sumia
Stahl & Miriel
Vaike & Sully
Mirabelle & Ricken
Not sure about Lissa. Should probably give her to Donnel, who I heard is a fucking powerhouse. I'm trying to level him as fast as possible so I can reclass after he gets his second skill. I paired him up with Fred. I also heard Fred is useless (I'm talking long-term), so Donnie boy is leading.
