Games that captivates you.

Have you ever played a game that really made you feel drawn in to the story and really makes the emotions flow, a game that makes you really care about the story and characters, a game that you don't just play because it's fun or cool?


For me the game that wakes the most emotions and makes me want to play it for the story rather then just the gameplay is the Metal Gear Solid series. It has an awesome and captivating story with very good characters that you really care about and they aren't just there to make the game go forward.


So what about you?

Well back in the days, around the era of ps2, I got drawn into Final Fantasy X.

Ah yes, FFX. That game was fucking awesome. I loved it too.

MGS4 for me. That game was epic, a fitting conclusion to Solid Snake's story.

Manly tears were shed.

With this criteria

The first game I can think of is that one.

Next in line is either Tales of the Abyss or Tales of Symphonia.

Pretty much any of the Tales games do that for me. Although, the Tales games are starting to get as repetitive and boring as the Final Fantasy series, as to where even good characterization and a good story isn't going to save the series.

Bioshock for me is the first that truly sucked me in, I found the characters and people of Rapture so interesting that finding the audio diaries was more of a treat for me.

But Bioshock 2 is one that really pulls at my heart strings, the opening was very powerful for me as was the entire games story, say what you want about how it may of felt all to similar, but I really did love the story, it was really touching to see how your choices made that girl look up to you and aspire to be like you.

I could go on but I'll stop now otherwise I'll end up writing a novel on why I loved Bioshock 2 so much :P

I suppose the only other game that has made me care about characters so much is Phoenix Wright, Trials And Tribulations especially. That had one of the most amazing, spell-binding, funny and exhausting story's I've played through. That trilogy really was something special for me.

A game that really captivated me was Uncharted 2, From the moment i slid it in my ps3 I was drawn in, from the quirky comments to the smart ass remarks. I played it through to the end and beat it on Normal, Hard and Crushing in a matter of days!
Everything in that game pulls you in and keeps you on edge till the end!

Breath of Fire 3, Final Fantasy 8, Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia, Persona 3, and Persona 4. MGS as well, but it's obviously already been mentioned.

Final Fantasy VIII, Drakengard, all 7 .hack volumes(original and G.U. series), Gears of War 1 & 2 and Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2.

Not sure why really. Those games just kinda pulled me in.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Series

Yeah Persona 4 pretty much. And Tales of Rebirth. To an extent, Tales of Destiny as well (the whole series, that means 2 and the Remake too)

after i beat it i cant describe how i felt after beating but most i was sad caus ethe story is REALLY REALLY EFFING GOOD but it is sad how it ended i felt it was too short( or maybe it felt that way cause it played it for hours straight because i really wanted to know what would happen after this or that
games that really captivate people like me are role playing games because of all the drama

Tales of Phantasia, Fire Emblem, Galaxy Angel...and Riviera: The Promised land. Most of them are good games on their own, but I play em over and over for their characters.

FFVIII, Dirge of Cerberus FFVII, FFX, Star Ocean 3, and Utamarerumono. There are probably few I forgot over the years but these were the first to come to my mind.

AH YEAH Fire Emblem. Totally forgot. Final Fantasy Tactics as well.

Halo Series

Mass effect Series, but since ME2 I lost some interest

Grand Theft Auto IV.

I just can't take other games cinematic and production values seriously after playing that one. Characters actually have... character.
