Games that captivates you.

Aside from Mass Effect 2, I've never quite seen a game this long. Mass Effect 2 was about 29 hours gameplay for me (straying a bit but that too was a highly immersive game) but to the point in Far Cry 2 it's no secret that the games tediousness causes most players to get bored and quit. And it bored me as well but I had just been kicked out of home and I was chilling at my Gramps with no internet so there wasn't much else to do. That being said I didn't not enjoy it though. The lack of music, the lack of friendly AI's, the thought of knowing that you're most likely going to end up killing everyone you meet, and hunting a man who you will ultimately join in his cause. It's somewhat relaxing. Driving to your next kill with no sound except 40km of virtual wild around you. The graphics, gameplay, and minimal HUD help a lot as well. The real time clock helps a lot as well. In the end you feel like you've been there for weeks.

When the game finally stops giving you simple tedious assassination/destroy missions which you've somewhat found comfort with at this point, shit finally hits the fan. The two leading gangs are murdering civilians thanks to you and the man you were sent to Africa to kill in the first place is trying to ally himself with you to use your ginormous stash of diamonds to bribe the border guards with and get all the civilians out of the country, but your only friends who you've saved and helped countless times (they usually end up saving you as well) set you up to try and murder you to take the diamonds for themselves. After brutally murdering all your friends you take a fuse and a bunch of dynamite and seal a canyon behind the civilians to stop factions pursuing them, killing yourself. You take one last look at the African sunset and then explode ;_;

I seem to be the only one who likes this game but the mix of realism/loneliness/length/map size results in huge immersion to me.
