Elite:
| Whatever you want. Seriously. Mesmer elites are bad, so you might want Hounds of Balthazar.
They're meatshields, which is important for the mesmer to avoid damage at close range.
Overall usage:
| Approach the foe with your scepter+sword(off-hand). Use the Phantasmal Swordsman to conjure a phantasm which will draw the foe's agro. He will begin by attacking the phantasm. Use Counter Blade in order to daze+interrupt the foe, which will also inflict 8 seconds of vulnerabiity due to the two Domination traits.
| With your wand still equipped, use Counterspell which will blind+confuse the target (due to Blinding Befuddlement)
| By now your Phantasm should have died, so roll twice to summon two clones (due to your dueling trait "Deceptive Evasion")
| While the foe is once again distracted by your illusions, use Confusing Images to stack confusion on the foe and spam Ether Bolt while carefully approaching to renew your clones and further confuse the foe.
| When in nearby range, use Signet of Midnight to blind+confuse the foe and quickly swap to your sword(main-hand)+torch set and use Phantasmal Mage to grant yourself retaliation and further confuse the foe.
| At this point you have more than enough illusions summoned total, so use Diversion to daze+vulnerable the foe. Quickly use Illusionary Leap to cripple the foe, and swap places with it to get into melee-range before Daze runs out. While they're shut down from daze and spam Mind Slash with your sword(main-hand) to stack more vulnerability and then finish with Blurred Frenzy as soon as they are capable of attacking again.
| Use The Prestige (your torch-cloak) and decide whether you must move to a safer distance or burn the foe and continue attacking. Note while the cloak is only 3-seconds, the blind when the skill is first used will last for 5 seconds (As well as confusion stacking due to the trait.) If you do not need to move to a safer distance, stay in nearby range to inflict blind+confusion+burn with this one skill!
| By now your staff skills should be recharged. So dodge backwards to summon some clones, and start wanding him again. Refresh the pattern anew, or go with the flow!
Note:
| If you ever find you have too many illusions and you are able to quickly create new ones, use Cry of Frustration while in proper range to stack
12 more seconds of confusion on the foe thanks to your Illusions Major Trait "Illusionary Persona" which counts yourself as a shatterable illusion!
| If Cry of Frustration is recharging or you feel it's unnecessary to stack more illusion, then just use Mind Wrack.
| In emergencies, use Distortion! Due to your grandmaster Illusions trait "Illusioary Persona" you gain one unconditional second of invulnerability! However, if you still have enough dodges left, dodge backwards as much as you can to summon as many illusions possible, and use Distortion for
FOUR seconds of total invulnerability!
