Got a new rig, please convince me into pre purchasing this game. I'm usually more of the wait until the reviews then purchase kind of guy but I have had my eyes set out on this for a while now.
From what I understand, the in game micro transactions will only be of the visual sort, and nothing that will provide players with an "advantage" over others? If so, this sounds like my cup of tea.
Should have spent more time testing during the open beta weekend =(

Think of WoW with better graphics, better lore, and skill over grind.
Guild Wars 2 separates PvE (the campaign mode) from the PvP (player versus player) mode.
In the PvP, your level and attributes are automatically adjusted to the max, and no player has any inherit advantage over the other. This emphasizes skill over time spent for PvP.
But in PvE, your level is scaled DOWN depending on the area you're visiting. In other words, you cannot exceed the levels intended by the devs, so that there would always be a challenge!
Leveling up in PvE is achieved not by grinding foes, but by exploring! Unlike other MMOs, Guild Wars 2 rewards you by simply finding new, unexplored locations and dynamic events along the way! This element of exploration is emphasized for the game's "jumping puzzles" which involve a heavy use of traditional video game platforming (think Mario) to reach the end of a dungeon-like area.
Unlike other MMOs, Guild Wars 2 promotes players to work TOGETHER! While the game scales depending on the players participating in mobs and events, there is no such thing as "kill-stealing" or "loot-stealing". Any player who helps another player is rewarded equally.
However, for fans of singleplayer games are the "instances". Guild Wars 2 implements a single-player mode called the Personal Story which progresses you through the story of the game itself in a manner similar to Missions in Grand Theft Auto.
What really makes this Personal Story/campaign-mode unique however are the choices which affects your immersion. While the game starts off with a questionnaire about your character's background which determine your starting quests, the way you play the quests allow up to 7024 branches! (According to the devs.) In the human story arc for example, you can choose to either kill your friend or save your friend, and this affects both the following missions or future dialogue. This also affects the dynamic instances you encounter through the game. So for example, there is an instance with a hospital, and depending on what you do in the story, that hospital will either be burned down or not.
Despite being an MMO, there is a huge depth of immersion to be found in these instanced areas. The best comparison I could make to another game is imagine GTA where the missions are singleplayer but you have other players wandering around outside them.
The game is divided into 5 different races, which each follow through their own personal story and perspective once it ties with the other races.
However, to anyone who wants a REALLY original story, I suggest checking out the Sylvari race. Trust me when I say original. Here's their opening:
What's going on there: Sylvari are a race of botanic-humanoids born from an entity named the Pale Tree. However, before they are born, they enter a state called "The Dream" where knowledge visions of existing Sylvari are passed onto the newborns. However, nightmare entities are invading "The Dream" and corrupting their race. The goal of the Sylvari storyline is to find the source of this corruption and put a stop to it.
Anyways, all this is one huge long wall of text. Overall, the reason you need to play it is because it has an awesome focus on exploration over grind, and an awesome, original, dynamic storyline! :D
before buying GW2 i have some questions. When I purchase the game, is it limited to one account/ip only? or once I purchase it, I can share the dvd with my friends and they can create accounts of their own?
My friends are cheapskates and they won't play the game if each of them have to buy separate dvds

I honestly don't know a damn thing about this game, didn't play Guild Wars, and yet, I still plan on preordering it to enjoy 3 days of early access. I've been told to expect good things out of it, and so I will.

Hmm that's a pretty persuasive wall of text you got there, did not know about the whole down/up level system for PVP/PVE. I guess I will pre order this after all :)

One account only.
Balls! I guess I'll pass this up since I get bored quickly if I have no friends to play with.
Honestly, you don't need a reason to roll on a particular server unless you know you want to play with a specific guild/alliance. Better off on an obscure one, particularly if you want people to actually make it Saturday/Tuesday.
Since GoM doesn't sound like Crystal Desert, Sanctum of Rall or Tarnished Coast, it seems like a valid choice.
since it'd be a social guild to start, not particularly. It's an MMO, and probably half of the people saying they're going to be playing will stop after a month or so.
After that, we'll see.

Gate of Madness is pretty much final unless something happens.
Hold on there, do we have a reason for this? First off, let's talk about Power of the Mists. For those not familiar, it basically means if your world is winning in WvW, everyone on that server gets these percentage bonuses such as +1% bonus experience per kill or 1% bonus coin per kill. These percentages can increase up to a maximum of 3% or 6%. In the end, 3% of 100 is still just 3, but every little bit counts when you're out killing mobs. I would also like to suggest either Anvil Rock, Darkhaven, or Crystal Desert, as these three thus appear to be the most popular servers, with lots of WvW action for those interested. And if it comes with the game, wouldn't you be losing out on money if you don't experience everything Guild Wars 2 has to offer? Also, Gate of Madness is an unofficial Oceanic server; will that be suitable for everyone here? This is a "Fakku Guild", right?
I'm unaware of how the exp system works, but say the most populated server gains such a perk through winning, wouldn't that be offset by the slower exp gained from over population at hunting spots?

Even though I said hunting mobs and such, with the way dynamic events work, regardless of whether you kill all the mobs or just some, as long as you're there and do damage, you can still get gold on a quest (Rewards such as karma and exp depend on what medal you get, bronze, silver, or gold). From what I experienced, getting gold on all of these is all you need to get through a zone, and there's usually at least one repeatable dynamic event in each zone. During closed beta, I kept hearing from others through zone chat that they were constantly over-leveled for their zone. I wasn't, but I imagine they ended up like that because they tried to grind like in all other MMORPGs. The exp rate in GW2 is constant as opposed to exponential, which is also the second main reason why I bought it. The main reason why I love it is because if you're not killing mobs, you can be doing dynamic events. If you're not doing dynamic events, you can be WvWing. If you're not WvWing, you can be PvPing. It's like an amusement park without lines!
Regarding the bonuses, it does say you get the bonus only if you get the kill, but those are just two bonuses among eight others: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Power_of_the_Mists
So there's only 7 days till the game comes out. I'm about to pre-order it. However I want to know first. In regards to the Fakku Guild - Is their one already set up? if so what world/server?
Also the system that NeoStriker mentioned seems similar to the Secret World. In terms of Control of area = Player Buffs.
I am thinking of Joining a Fakku Guild but at the same time I'm also interested in joining a Guild that's closely related to Sword Art Online. While at the same time I'm thinking I'm not a group player to begin with. I've always been a solo player, only needing a group when doing Dungeons or pvp.
But I think I won't worry about that. I just need to know the things I asked above and I'll mostly make a decision when I get in game or just before.
Never played Guild Wars myself, though I know several friends that are going to start playing so if I have money and time when it comes out I might give it a try. As long as I get a good 50+ hours I'll consider it a good use of the time.
