Heroes of Newerth is basically an upgraded DOTA and is still in beta. HoN is a standalone game that does not require you to have Warcraft installed to play. It has new heroes, a lot of the same heroes with a new appearance and a lot of skills have been changed from others. If you have ever had an idea about how dota could be improved (or the battle.net system for playing dota) then there is a good chance it is implemented in HoN. Here are some examples: - Leavers are penalized and if you have a bad leave % you can't join some games. - If you accidently disc due to internet problems or a crash you are able to rejoin the same game that you left. - Easily join the same game your friends are in, or invite others to the game youre in. - All skills are, by default, bound to q w e r. Q being your first skill and R being your ult. Obviously you can bind all your keys to do whatever you want, but it is convenient to not have to memorize a bunch of diff hotkeys for diff heroes. - One shop at base. You can click on the recipe and it will have a list of the mats needed to make whatever recipe you are looking for. - In game voice communication (you can talk to your teammates and talk to others in your specific lane so you can coordinate without bothering the others) - Countdown stops if a player leaves during countdown. - Host can swap players to whatever color he/she wants. So you can ask the host "I'm with my friend on the other team" and the host can easily fix that by swapping two players. - Records a bunch of stats for your account. - Easily filter the game list to find the game types you want. - A couple new maps (including one for 3v3 with 2 lanes) - A rating system (you get points for winning and lose points for losing). If the other team has an overall better psi (the acronym for their skill rating system) then you won't lose many points for losing the match because the other team has a better rating. Likewise, if you are playing against a bunch of people with lower psi you will not gain as much by winning if you played people with high psi. There is also a team winning % that is predicted. For example, if your team has a bunch of low psi players and the other team has high psi players, your team will probably have a predicted victory % of around 30%. Obviously this system isn't perfect, especially the predicted victory/loss %, but I find that the personal player psi is actually pretty accurate. Players that have 1300 and below normally suck donkey balls and players with 1800+ are normally good. - An autobalancing ability to even out the players' psi to make it so both teams have about a 50% of winning. You can be locked with your friends so when it autobalances it keeps you on the same team with your friends. - Awesome graphics compared to that Warcraft III engine!! So if you like DOTA I can almost guarentee you will like Heroes of Newerth. It is currently in beta and I thought they were giving away beta account by facebook? http://www.facebook.com/heroesofnewerth Anyways, I have one more invite to beta that I can give away...so the first person that posts their email can have it. (If you haven't played dota don't bother asking for the beta because it is a very unique game that isn't enjoyable to a lot of people.) EDIT: The Skill rating system is PSR, not PSI. I'm assuming it stands for Player Skill Rating.

I play HoN, but i might not play it when beta is over

Honestly i still prefer Dota over HoN probably because i'm more used to the controls and items in Dota than with HoN and i don't feel too compelled to start learning alot of new stuff >_>

well it's good and all and their original items and heroes are good but certain chars are still op and they haven't fixed orb stacking issues yet...

I sea lot of people abusing On attack impact items(i.e skadi + mjolnir + S&N + Satanic + Deso on one hero)

Some of my classmates started to play the HoN D=

It seems to have much better controls (i really recommend QWER F keys for spells, easier to find than always looking the name of spell and then finding the yellow character which is the Hotkey).

It seems fairly nice as well, thou i don't have any account either to play it. One friend couldn't find the link to download the game so he bought it D=

Isn't there already like 5 topics on this game already?

I play it, enjoy it but it is very different from dota in terms of strategy. HoN is all about DPS and AOE heroes, while dota is more balanced.

ya there are but i think they're all just HoN vs DOTA threads and HoN vs DOYA vs some other dota clone that i've never heard of

ah there were invitations that were given in facebook. that was months ago and its close to release so if you wanna play you need to buy it or get someone else's beta account :P

Seconded... That crazy turret is way to imba with orb stacking ATM... something they will probbly tone down next versions or so...

I'd play this too but I don't like people calling me a noob just because my team lost. Apparently the assholes of DOTA moved on here too.

There's a lot of balance issues right now. Engineer's Turret should not have any of his item passive abilities. Even with base damage, it attacks rather fast for it to deserve need for etra boosting. Scout is still broken, Puppet is kinda broken as well. Arachna is arachna. ppl only pick them for kdr and then begs you to play stunner or support

Still far too many glitches in the game.
last I remember, nothing AI targets the archer's skeletons.
don't know if they fixed the chronosphere glitch I found

though this isn't a glitch, creeps that follow you out of lane never really stop following

You've gotta remember it's still a beta.

They are planning on porting over more heroes from dota, and creating more. The final roster of heroes when the beta is over will well exceed dota's hero roster. This will mean that it will be a long long time before the final version is released, which is good i guess.

will there be AI and when is it going to be publicly released.
I normally play AI for abit to get the feel for the heroes rather than jumping into a real game
