Koihime Musou MangaGamer translation

A general heads up/discussion about awesome-ness thread:

So, I hear a translated demo of Koihime Musou will be released this weekend. :D
I've been waiting for this for years. Apparently MangaGamer is releasing the game without sound, but I don't see that as a problem seeing as how we can just grab the translations from them and use our own version of the game.
I know there must be others who've been waiting for this as much as I have; make yourselves heard. :)

I just read the news about no voices and boy does it make me sad. 2000 copies? Since MG doesn't provide the numbers of past work (and from the comments it seems they don't want to), who knows if this will be achieved. Sure someone can make an unofficial voice pack, but what does that mean for any future sales/deals where other studios/companies do this as well....I hope this doesn't hurt MG's chances for future releases/projects.

I'll still get the game, but damn does this suck...a huge VN with so many roles/cast and not a single voice (for now, but who knows when it will be patched). :(

just cause they plan to release it with no voice doesn't mean its going to stop people from playing it

the market is pretty small and all, you can probably see that if Nexton chose to placed a figure of 2000 on Mangagamer like that, which means many of their titles was not able to pass that 2000 bar line.

It's evident that MG's parent companies are dubious if there is even any sustainable market in the western countries already. And if it's parent companies are the ones complaining and putting bar lines on sales figures, you know business is really bad.

Whoa nice, can't wait for the translation to finish so I can buy it.

possible scenario:

1)MG is gonna release voiceless game
2)Someone is gonna make a voice patch
3)Voice patch is gonna get bundled with the translated game on filesharing
4)Pirate Bundle >>>>>> Official Bundle
5)????
6)No profit.

Voice or not, those who pirate it would do so anyway. Nothing's stopping you from using a fan-made voice patch on an officially bought game even in the case of this pirate bundle if you want to support MG and a possible future voice patch / voiced release from them. And yeah, I'm quite likely to be a pirate myself, although this more for monetary reasons than anything else. There are a few VNs I'd like to eventually buy, though, and if this will be worth paying for, it'll be added to the list as well, especially since it might help MG release the voice patch and possibly avoid this scenario in the future.



lol, edited while I was typing my reply... Overcharging? Didn't they just announce they'd lower the price? (Although this makes one wonder whether the eventual voiced version would cost more and whether we'd need to pay the difference to get their voice patch...)

the real problem comes when
[buying official->download patch] becomes more troublesome than [pirating the whole damn thing]
and/or
[buying->playing without voice] when there is a readily packaged [pirates' bundle] available.

this arrangement almost forces your potential customers to get in contact with piracy in order to play the 'full game'. this point in time at which people will have to make choices between going the extra mile to support=pay+do the illegal stuffs in order to enjoy the full game or just plain pirating for convenience.

MG announced that they WILL release a voice patch when 2,000 copies are sold. We should understand this as: 39.95 x 2000 = reasonable revenue to incur the relicensing of voices (therefore leading to the official distribution of the voice patch). Meaning, they are already trying to "save up" for the voice costs with the price of 39.95. The happy deal with the sales quota+promise is that if <2,000 copies are sold, the "savings" will line my pockets. And by the general feel of the MG correspondence, 2,000 copies isn't something that can be reached easily. Smells like a good business promise to me.

btw: im not gonna buy, im not gonna play this either, though i do have this in my hdd ( ﾟヮﾟ)

Oh, there's also the option of [buying official->pirating the whole damn thing]. Playing the pirated "full" version, while still supporting the company by buying the official product. But yeah, pirates are rarely ready to pay for what they can get for free. Of course, as said earlier, they'd do this without the voice patch anyway. Or when the official version were already voiced. So in the end, those who'd pay for it will most likely do so anyway, and those who wouldn't will not. Nothing really changes in the end.

People are taking this too seriously in this case. Why not buy it to make sure they get the voices later as well?

While this is pretty lame, how's this for a reality check...

The original PC version of Fate/Stay Night, fully unvoiced, still retails for about 60EU.

And people are whining about about voiceless KH for 40EU for a game of comparable size and scope which has a decent chance of getting voiced?

About precident- I really hate that it's come to this, but people gotta make a living. I'm willing to accept it happening once, but if they do it again, I hope that it tanks horribly.

Also, it makes me really sad that the market is so dismal. I think I'll probably end up purchasing a few more things that I really hadn't planned on paying for just to help out. (soul link, for example)

Soul Link is good, worth the money :D

btw if you're quite horrible at it, there's a help guide you can use so you're not stuck in the endless void of mediocrity.

Oh, I know that soul link is good, as I already played it unlicensed... I'm just loathe to spend nearly $50 on less than 20hours of content. Then again, I'll definitely not going to buy Shuffle, so if I consider it an investment on both games it's not bad.

Plus, looking at the release date, seems like the game isn't slated for release until Feb 2011, lol.

Hmm. Finished the demo.
Lack of voices wasn't quite as bad as I had imagined.

Guess I'll be buying it regardless. Was thinking of holding off at first, but, seeing how far away the release is, I should be able to afford it by then.

I won't play the demo, I'll just wait til it releases xD
