So I've been playing Versus and a
tiny bit of coop since the game came out, but last night my internet was down. I tried playing single player on Death Toll because I hadn't seen that or Dead Air yet. Can I just state the obvious and say...
wow the bot teammates are so fucking horrid.
-At the beginning of the 4th chapter, I could not get Francis to pick up a fucking health kit... Even after shooting him in the head three times. WTF? :?
-When a tank appears they all decide to play the 'pretend I'm a statue' game and stand completely still. That way the tank doesn't have to go anywhere to hit us! WTF?
-They don't ever pick up grenades? Ok so every chapter I pass up 4 molotovs and 3 pipe bombs (that's after spamming some). WTF?
I'm sure there are a lot more issues, but that is just what I noticed after playing for 20 minutes. How frustrating. :?
-Teammates usually pick up healthkits and pain pills automatically, so there shouldn't be a problem there. Unless he already
had one, which would explain why he didn't pick it up.
-As far as the bots go, they'll usually respond to what the player's doing and act accordingly. If you're running away from the tank, they'll run away from the tank. If you're shooting, they'll be shooting. If you standing stock still and looking at them and wondering why they're not running, they'll be standing stock still.
-They don't pick up grenades because the amount of AI required to make it worthwhile would be amazingly advanced. Players pick up molotovs or pipe bombs and use them based on how difficult the game has been and probably will be in the future, and what would be an appropriate time to use one. A human player would know it's a good idea to throw a molotov and incinerate a following horde, while the bots will have no such knowledge. Basically, the grenades get left for the player's use, since that would achieve the highest rate of survival.
For example, your party encounters a Witch. One player has a Molotov. Normally, they would avoid the Witch unless necessary (especially on the harder difficulties). A computer with the Molotov, however, might not realize that the Witch can be bypassed, and would throw the molotov, startling the Witch and killing himself.
