You've gotta complete a majority of the main routes before unlocking the teacher route if I remember right. Like say... I think four of the five main girls must be completed before the Teacher Route becomes selectable, though keep in mind the first two times you select her she'll refuse to talk to you. Just keep selecting her icon and eventually her events will start and it's all pretty straightforward from there.

Yea definitely go onto Majikoi S. There's Kokoro, Mon-Sama, and Margi routes out, even though they are all side characters. Mon-Sama's is still pretty long for a side story though.
