I just spent a few hours online on the PS3 version of Ultimate. I spent a few days practicing my combos and going against HARD Cpu on offline mode. I know I won't winning EVERY match but I least wanted to be decent, Then when I got to playing my first match... I lost... then lost... then lost again. In my total time online, I lost 90% of the time. These guys know how to annoy the hell out of a guy... I am currently running Ryu/C.Viper/Vergil I don't know many complex combos but I know the basic ones. Also I know my team actually doesn't benefit off each other's assists sadly... many a times have I lost my combo do to one of my assist attacks... So Yeah I have a lot of work to do. But if anyone doesn't mind training in a few hours I am game. East coast players would be better for me though. Anyone that's farther will lag me greatly...
For a first time player, Crimson Viper is going to be an extremely difficult character to use effectively. Computers are a terrible way to learn to play the game because they play vastly differently from real people.
The best way to learn to play the game is to play people with similar or slightly above skill then you. The both of you will get stronger that way and as you get better, you will want to move on to stronger and stronger opponents. If you play really good people and they beat you very badly, you will not learn anything. You will sit there and wonder why you lost or just say "Oh, he is just really good." But you will not learn to get better that way.
Another way to get better is to learn to use training mode properly. Practicing combos and execution is fine, but that can only take you so far. You have to learn set ups, how to confirm combos from any hit, and all the minute things that go into Fighting Games.
I am not the best, but I would like to say I am probably better than 70% of players. I have practiced a lot with many players and styles, my team does very well and compliments each other well. Nemesis, Virgil, and Hawkeye. Virgil and Nemesis benefit from Hawkeye assist to help get in on opponents and it makes approaches safer. Virgil does not do much for Nemesis except provide a safe DHC option. Nemesis helps Virgil with an excellent combo extender in his assist and a good DHC option for that extra damage if needed. Hawkeye is a good anchor with level 3 X-Factor. However, if he does not have it, he is a little bad. Overall however, the team is pretty good. These are some of the things you need to look at when building a team.
