Electronic Arts has inadvertently announced Mass Effect 3 through its online store.
Appearing online this morning, Mass Effect 3 was available for pre-order for $59.99. Only the PC platform was listed, however. The product description gives a few storyline hints. For the third game, Commander Shepard is heading to Earth to save humanity.
Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth.
As expected, the listing was quickly taken down by EA. This confirms a rumored reported by Joystiq that Mass Effect 3 will be announced tomorrow at the Video Game Awards show. We'll hopefully have more details then.
Seriously, I'm sure they'll handle it well, but that seems like a bit of a cop-out. The human relations with the Citadel and how they all react will be interesting to see, anyway.
Too soon for ME3 IMHO, the ME2 was announced 2 years after the first game and now not even one year passed since ME2.
Personaly Im little pissed of because I think that its too soon, I can wait another 3 years if this means that I will get better game than ME2
Lets hope that it will be a good move instead of big mistake.

Same thing happened with Assassin's creed. As far as I know it worked out well.

Exactly, Brotherhood is a great game and it came out soon after ACII. Besides, ME 3 was announced back in 2007 when they said the game is going to be a trilogy. Word is they started working on ME 3 before ME 2 even came out.
That's how it should be, but from the small things that have been revealed it sounds more like they're focusing the entire thing around earth and humanity. Something that started already in Me2 with the human reaper thing.
I'll be honest, I think that this will be perhaps one of the choices in the game. Like saving the Destiny Ascension from ME1.
You can either sacrifice a lot of forces to save the Earth, or perhaps save up all your forces to fight the Reapers in one glorious battle to eradicate them.
I think it would be something along the lines of commanding your forces of allies. Perhaps send some to save the Earth, and something similar to the Specialists part in ME2. You need special forces to do certain things in the battle(s) to come.
I'm a little worried about this. If it's based around Earth and concentrating galactic forces there, I can't see there being much travel and exploration, which in the variety it presents is one of the strengths of Mass Effect. That basically means a little bit of banter with the council and a whole lot of visceral firefights with your alien compadres.
Now the combat is decent, but it's not what you play the games for. It seems to me like this would hugely limit the range of content, too, in so far as there can't be much variety in the dialogue and side-stories you encounter. Travelling between cities to help soldiers out could get very samey. They're trying to make Halo 3.5 so as to boost the saleability of the game. :|
That said, Halo 3.5 by Bioware could be awesome. I do like lollercookiez idea, and it would be interesting to see how the old crew, particularly Ashley, would come together to contribute.
The First Trailer, Not gonna lie but I think I jizzed my pants
HOLY FUCKING HELL!!!
I just can't wait for this to come out, hopefully it will be in 2011.
Personally, I hope the game will still let you explore the whole galaxy, but introduce a unit deployment system, similar to the Normandy upgrade system in ME2. For example, say we excavate enough resources and send a certain type and number of troops/special divisions to help the effort on various planets. I also hope we get a great variety of choices and consequances, so that the final outcome will be anything between losing everything and winning the battle and keeping all the major characters alive.
Another thing I'd like to see is that all the important choices in ME1 and 2 will have an impact on the war against the Reapers. Say, if you saved the Rachni and Geth, they'll help you, if you didn't then you stand a lesser chance of winning the war.
I think romance options will be there as well and hopefully they'll give you the chance to continue your relationship from ME2, or the one from ME1 (either ditch the ME2 romance, or continue it if you haven't picked any1 from ME2.). I don't know what to do, since by the end of Shadow Broker DLC, I'm banging both Liara and Tali.
When is it coming out?!?!?!?!? (They better show Tali's face!)
