This somewhat confirms that whole 'This is the effects of war' thing.
Basically the main rumor out and about is that the game is about Snake dealing with extremely heavy PTSD.
But another interesting take is that the game is about a man who is simply just crazy as it is spelled out to the player that everything [the game series]was simply imagined by him and that in reality he is a deranged killer [possibly the real psycho mantis] egged on by a man in a mask. The game happens when his sanity and reality begin to fall apart in the worse way possible.
This might be the game snake actually dies in this time.
Also the 'interview' gave a bit of bizarre fuel to the rumor. The guy looks exactly like the guy that helped snake up in the trailer. If the snake is dead thing is correct, then the guy who helped him out survives to the end of the game. [for the whole 4th wall thing]
This is starting to sound way too sketchy to me. Also sounds a bit too much like the Indoctrination Theory for my taste as well.
I honestly wish the Metal Gear series would be taken somewhere else. Bring in a whole new cast of characters with a whole new story. Focus the plot back onto the Metal Gear, and tone down all the social commentary and batshit conspiracies.
Why can't this happen? Didn't the MGSolid series end with 4? Put some new blood back into this franchise.
Taken somewhere else = Revengance.
Whole new cast of Raidens.
Tone down social commentary and conspiracies = Not even a metal gear game.
Yeah, those sound like swell ideas.
-Revengance was not "somewhere else", it was the same place but told through the wacky craziness of Platinum Games. I meant give a new threat that makes
sense, with a new cast that works within the MG universe and a new hero. If it was written well it could work.
-It wasn't really a new cast because of Raiden and Sunny. He was so out of character that it may as well have been a completely different character, like the ones in the office helping him out. I genuinely didn't mind those guys, even the girl who spills coffee on her keyboard every other minute. I mean, I guess you could still have Sunny because she's a part of the Metal Gear future, but Raiden didn't need to be there.
And by "tone down the social commentary" I mean stop having blunt, elongated speeches on shit that has barely anything to do with the plot. Maybe there's a mention here and there, definitely put it in subtly, but don't have it the way it was because it's bad writing.
You're a fellow MG fan, right? Are you telling me you enjoyed listening to the characters go on and on and on about social issues that were barely relevant to the story? That's not a good thing to be a staple of the series.
The way I see it, taking it away completely WOULD make the game barely Metal Gear, but toning it down, making it subtle, would improve the game and the series as a whole.
You do realize that characters have those speeches about their countries or their past that INFLUENCED them to become what they are, right? Gurlokovich wanted to help the Soviet Union come back, Ocelot was a triple agent, Solidus was against the Patriots, The End wanted one final good battle and the list goes on.
The story for MGS1 was, "a group of terrorists have taken over Shadow Moses, find out why and stop them!" but then it turns out that we learn why Liquid and the FOXHOUND group did it.
MGS2 was simply "a group of terrorists have taken the Big Shell, the president and hostages, they also want $30 billion in cash!" but it turns out that it was Solidus wanting revenge.
MGS3 originally was "Sokolov needs to come back to the US, infiltrate and get out without being seen." and then we get the entire reason once you finish the Virtuous Mission.
You see, these people aren't just born with thoughts like "THE SOVIET UNION WILL RISE AGAIN!" "I SHALL FIGHT BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I DO!" "I'll be a cyborg ninja in the future!", no. Instead they give us their motives and reasoning why they fight.
