I have a Wii and Xbox 360. My Wii almost never gets any use. It was so cool the first couple of months, but then it has sit there in my living room collecting dust most of the year with a couple of exceptions like Dawn of the New World.
My 360 on the other hand gets daily use with RPGs and FPS/TPSs. Funny though, I used to be very anti-Microsoft (still am in a lot of other ways), but the 360 has to be my favorite console of all time. Great library, great online experience, plus I think the 360 controller is the best of all time. Of course that's relative anyway since I've never played a PS3, so don't go reading into that too much. XD
No console should be collecting dust. Hell, I hate that phrase completely. Seriously, how can a Wii be collecting dust when games like Madworld, Klonoa and Punchout!! had just been released on that system? Seriously, there's no way YOU own every single good game on the Wii. Also, it's your own fault if a system is collecting dust. The games are out there, you're just the one who's not buying them.
It looks to me you're a RPG/FPS fan which shows why you don't like the Wii. You've should have known that Nintendo systems have never been a place where you can get your shooting fix. If Tales of Symphonia is the reason why you're even playing with your Wii, then you should better sell it because you it's obvious the Wii is not for you. Also, my Wii has never collected dust so I don't know why it happens to other people especially when it has high replay value games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. I've been playing Mario Kart Wii (a game that was released last year) nonstop for the last few months and I'm not even close to being bored yet.
My father and I got it for the novelty aspect, which of course had to be the dumbest reason ever, but I take a little comfort in knowing that a lot of people fell into that trap.
FPS no, but Nintendo used to always be the home of the RPGs, granted it hasn't for a long time, and it was a tad foolish to expect otherwise, but oh well. As far as replay value is concerned I have Brawl and Mario Kart, but I got exceedingly bored with both of them in about a months time. Brawl just doesn't have the same charm as Melee to me, as for Mario Kart I could probably randomly pick that up at any time, but I just don't care enough.
I'm mostly just disappointed in them. They've gone completely casual and all but have deserted their old hardcore fanbase. I mean they're making money, and that's good for them I suppose, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It may make great business sense, but I don't have to agree with it.
And you do realize that "every good game" is as subjective as it gets right? I don't agree that any of the first few games you mentioned as good games. People have different tastes. I agree that it was silly for me to have gotten a Wii in the first place, but that doesn't mean I'm not entitled to my opinion of the Wii even if it isn't a positive one.
