Oh wow... so this thread was finally made, guess those of you who always have to comment on how localization is handled just had to make it.
*snip
Haha Yeah, indeed. It's here to put an end to the "fanboy/hater" argument by putting up proven facts and reasonably believable statements/accounts of what these and other localization companies have done wrong and right. This way you can always refer back to this thread if you're looking into a game from a particular publisher or if you just need more info to back up your argument.
I only wish more of us could understand Japanese, especially audio. haha

While I can not prove this, since I do not own a JPN copy of Atelier Rorona, this is what I can say.
While talking with certain people at a convention, it was discovered that one of them had worked on the QA team for NISA back at that time of Rorona. What slipped into the conversation? Well, apparently to him, they did joke around about the whole Esty Dee thing, but he didn't exactly say who was responsible for that, only that everyone found it hilarious.
Ugh...

What he did say, was that apparently most of the towns people/villagers did not have names in the original, so they just added in names for each villager. Names such as: Magnum and Dog, can be seen if you interact with towns people. Not sure if that's such a big deal though, but its something I thought I'd add in.
I'll add that to the list of "Wrong" since that is a change that shouldn't have been made, but no, it's not that big a deal at all from what I see. It's not like they went around naming the townsfolk "Ser Poopylicker" or "Madam Buttsniffer".
However what
is a big wrong is:

WHAT THE FUCK?! Look, I'm sorry you didn't get the job, but personally I'd say you're better off from the standpoint of integrity. I mean...what is
this shit? Having the goal of preserving the original story and
not just "doing your own thing" with someone else's work is a
negative to
NISA? I'm...
Blech! Fuckin'
BLECH!!
It's not their story, dammit! It's their job to help us understand the story, not to rewrite it according to their idea of what's funny or cool or what have you. What a masturbatory way of operating. Fuck me...
Anyway, I'm glad you decided to post, Looky-tan and I'm grateful for your insight and opinion. This thread is about the wrongs and rights of localization companies in general. It's alright if some of us don't feel as outraged as others so long as we understand where their outrage comes from and why. Thankfully everyone who's posted has had legitimate reasons and wasn't just fanboi shitposting. You're all making this list a reliable one!
Thanks for the input, and you're welcome to give us any more insight on the rights and wrongs any of these companies have done and to what games. It's also great if you can find another company and what they've done right and/or wrong.
