First time downloading anything. When I click on the link for parts 1 and 2 for megaupload, it takes me to Lix and wants me to download Usenet. Am I supposed to do this?

No, you have to click on "continue", not "download".
Megaupload doesn't exist now anyway.
Get the torrent instead. The one on Fuwanovel is still working fine (I posted it a just a post or two above this one)
Scroll down a little and click on the Download button, that has "File Size: 1.20 GB" beside it. (In case you're seeing an ad that says "download" on it or something....)

P.S. I downloaded it, but it says the file is only 50 KB, not 1.2 GB. Did I do something wrong?

It's a torrent file, meaning you need a torrent client, like Tixati, utorrent, qbittorent, Vuze, bitcomet, etc...

After you have a client, open the .torrent file you got from the website and the client will ask you where you want to save it, choose where and then, wait until it's fully downloaded(Some clients may not ask you and just default to the windows Downloads folder).
Be aware, that torrents do not always have the same speed, so you may download at 3000KB/s for a minute and the next it may go down to 5KB/s. Just wait it out.
You may also want to lower the upload speed of the torrent client and close the client once it's done downloading, otherwise it will keep "seeding" (sharing) it.

As for following instructions, it should be as simple as just clicking on "Wanko.exe" once it's done downloading (Don't try before that, it won't work), since it already includes the patch.
You might need to set windows to Unicode Japanese, but it should still run without it, if it doesn't post here for help.

I got Utorrent and downloaded the file fine, but when I go to the folder and run the application (clicked the application file at the bottom of the folder, I get a white screen and when I try to exit out a window pops up that says ??????'ntdll.dll' ????? and additional stuff and I cannot close it! I think I may have done something wrong! Help! (P.S. I can click return to title and a menu from the game asks if I am sure, but that is all i can do!) I'm running Windows 8 if that helps.

Try switching windows to Unicode Japanese in the language settings of windows and then retry opening Wanko.exe

A faster way would be to install Applocal with the registry entry to make it so that "Local Japanese" appear in the context menu (right click) of a .exe file.

This is what I use, been using it for years and it's still working. UAC (Windows 8's annoying "security feature") might not allow you to install it at first, so you may need to install it as Administrator by right clicking on it for admin privilege and installing it. After extract all the files and Applocale.msi is installed, double click on localejaptoexecontext[INSTALL].reg to get the context menu option.
After that simply right clicking on Wanko.exe will/should show "Locale Japanese" in the menu, launch the game by clicking on that.

Sorry to be such a pain! But when I downloaded it, I clicked on the app to install and it says "Windows cannot complete the extraction".

I downloaded it and it worked fine.
Do you have an extracting software installed or is it using the default Windows archive feature?
If you don't, get 7zip here, it can open almost any type of archives.
As for being a pain, don't worry, I've seen worse.

You said you had Windows 8, which version exactly? Are you 100% sure the download completed successfully in utorrent?
From what I could find, for Windows 8, "ntdll.dll" errors is due to not having administrative rights. So either disable UAC (It's useless 99% of the time anyway and is just an annoyance for most people) or right click + Run as administrator on Wanko.exe .
In both cases, you will still need Unicode Japanese, otherwise texts will be nearly unreadable, you can create a shortcut with applocal for that, that way you can have it both Locale Japanese and Administrator.

SUCCESS! Finally! I re-downloaded the game and installed the programs you suggested! It turned out that the file was set to read only. When I changed that, it worked! Thanks for all your help!

Alright quick question. I recently started doing a sweep of my VN files on an old Ext.HD and discovered this game in particular stopped working. This is the error message I'm getting upon launching the game.



Anyone have advice on what to do?

Maybe it's the old sound problem? I believe you had to go to the options and unmute the sound/mute hte sound, or something like that.
