It's interesting the way I choose who to romance in games, though; generally from a role playing perspective, and regardless of gender. For example, in one Mass Effect 2 playthrough I romanced Miranda. I can't stand Miranda, but the character I was doing was an ass who totally would have gotten with Miranda, so I pursued that subplot for the sake of continuity. And because I could afford to, what with having all those characters I made... hmmm. So in regards to gender and general choices in games, I guess I sacrifice "my own" preferences (to a point) for the sake of fulfilling these preconceived storylines for my characters.
This is very much how I feel, and it's a key difference to

Because games are unique, as they are an interactive medium that allow us to attach our ego to the character we control and live vicariously through them. (It would be nice, though, to be able to use my controller to have a TV character throw themselves off a cliff while a commercial is on.) If a character is supposed to be a representative of our "self," then when Zaff is offered some dick, instead of thinking, "my female char is is going to suck cock like a boss," he subconsciously thinks, "I'm going to suck cock like a boss," hence the disgust. It's an irrational aversion, but you can hardly blame the guy for not wanting to vicariously drink cum. This is where the cunnilinguistics skill comes in.
When I create an RPG character, I'm creating my own story. They don't have to feel like an extension of me, and I don't want them to. I play games like FIFA to imagine that I'm a world-beating footballer because, in some parallel universe, I can imagine that reality. But RPG worlds, while recognisable, are too far from reality for me to transpose myself into. They are stories, and in a story I'm happy to craft and play witness to any narrative that comes along.
Thank you all for your wonderful input, keep it coming. p.s. the avatar is from about three years ago, dug it up from an old folder.
