I sometimes wonder if Nintendo is going the way of Sega. To many consoles and choices for the consumer arent always a great thing, then again its no longer the mid 90's so it could pan out differently.
Personally i would love a
-True Mario 64 successor at Launch. Theres just not enough of these on console now a days and its a shame.
-F-Zero !!! yes definitely, good choice.
-Smash bros, but one that doesnt alienate the pro gamers like brawl did.
-Star Fox, its been awhile since weve seen a good sequel to this series.
- Something Earthbound related (why must you hate this series nintendo!!!)
Not to sound curt, but no, there is no way Nintendo is going the Sega route. There were a number of reasons on why Sega went third party and quit the console business. The most important being that they never knew how to handle their console business. And with the way the handled the Dreamcast (literally announcing it was in stores when they showed it at E3, not even retailers knew shipments were coming), that was the final nail in the coffin for Sega. I love Sega and all, I grew up with the Genesis, but consoles was not something Sega excelled at (business-wise).
In terms of the games, Mario 64 we already have a successor in a way, look at the Mario Galaxy games. Those games are considered the closest successor to Mario 64 and for good reason.
Smash Bros has already been announced (3DS and Wii U version) and hasn't started production yet (I'd assume). Sakurai just finished up Kid Icarus no more than two months ago, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Sakurai still looking for talent to hire on (because the other Nintendo R&D, EAD teams are busy with their own projects). The best thing we can hope for at E3 is a reiteration that the game is coming out on both the Wii U and 3DS with possible trailer to start the hype train, with a Smash Bros Dojo website to follow shortly after.
F-Zero would be amazing (played part of Grand Prix) but Miyamoto has hinted, or at least being construed in a way that a release for it is unlikely because Miyamoto just mentions the game now compared to last E3. And the GBA games (handled by Capcom) were considered to be pretty bad so that doesn't help things at all. Hopefully are fears are wrong and it gets announced, Nintendo is a company that you just never know what may happen.
Star Fox would be cool, considering Star Fox 3DS was just released last September. But I think the difficulty comes in on whether it should be pure air combat like the original, or go the Star Fox Adventures/Assault route, where those games didn't sell well either.
All in all I can't wait to see what Nintendo has planned for E3 and I have hopes that if they check off everything they said they would, then the Wii U 'it prints money' gifs should be coming in no time.
