A new game in the same world as 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors is coming to the Vita.
9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, also known simply as 999 (no relation to Herman Cain), was a game in the same vein as torture porn classics like Saw and Cube (OK, Cube doesn't really fit the torture porn label per se) in which you and other characters had to solve puzzles to avoid getting killed horribly.
Developer Aksys Games' weird press release doesn't explicitly say that Zero Escape is a sequel to 999, but it does say that they're in the same series. It also describes the game as a virus that has escaped quarantine, which is creative but there seems to be something lost in translation.
Zero Escape will be a retail game, but will also be available as a download on the SEN. It will also feature updated 3D graphics (versus the 2D from 999), familiar faces from 999, and multiple endings.
Yes. Played it, got 5 of the 6 endings, absolutely loved every second of it. Ask Kaimax as well: 999 was one of the few VNs he gave a 10/10 on vndb.
Another main thing to account for is that 999's design team was led by Kotaro Uchikoshi, who wrote the scenario for ever17: The Out of Infinity. No idea if he's back for this one, though.
This is a sequel to 999.
Pink haired girl is supposed to be Clover, while the Arab-chick is Alice.
It's not porn though and there's no torture. You basically try to stay alive with other people, and solve the mystery.
I recommend you to play 999 first, since this is a sequel and get used to the controls and gameplay this game offers.
Lol @ "Torture porn". Clearly the person writing that knew what he was talking about.
I don't really like the fact that they made it in 3d instead of 2d tbh, cuz it kinda looks like shit from what i've seen in the trailers... But i'll reserve my final judgement for when i've actualy played the game.
I'd suggest Removing the "Torture Porn for the Vita?" line from the thread-title and make this the OT for the game (both 3ds/Vita).
I thought it was a gas that someone named the title of the article 'torture porn'.

Ironically, the guy who wrote that never played 999.
Playing the demo now. I'm not sure if i would buy this. Ironically i still haven't played 999 yet since i don't have a 3ds anymore since the screen fucking turned all red and stuff. Second one to die in since 2011. Meh i'll borrow someones for a week and kill it during turkey day weekend. Also because i forgot to dl it. Free on psn. Should be on 3ds also.

Pretty much the only reason I finally got a 3DS (XL). Only bought one after the European release of this was confirmed as well. Pre-ordered already, of course.
coming in to second [or third idc] the posts about how awesome this game is.
Definitely getting it on the 3DS. Sure vita is kinda nice, but people new to this series who own vitas probably would not want to come in on the second act since 999 is not on the vita as of yet. Which I found odd since aksys just recently re-released 999 for the DS a week ago.
I guess they are just testing the Vita waters like everyone else is currently.

I'm not sure 999 would work well on the Vita, it relies a lot on the DS's two-screen layout for a few spoilery reasons.

Yea, the only reason the last puzzle works is because of the dual screens and a lot of the puzzles would take forever if I had to use a d-pad or stick to select stuff

That, too, although more related to having a touchscreen than two screens. There are also story-related reasons for why it needs two of them, though, if you remember.
Well, no need to discuss this any further in the sequel's thread, though.
Got this game and oh man what a game. Just as good or better than 999 and I have not even got the good or true ending yet. It may still be a nonary game, but everything is different. Shit gets real fast and enemies are everywhere. Also, enemies change from route to route.
Puzzles are great and fucking hard. One diet-food distribution puzzle... fuck that shit. Sigma's comment when you finish it is priceless though (almost makes up for it but not really).
Another awesome thing is that you can change the difficulty for a puzzle while you are in it. "Hard" is the default difficulty and you can change to "easy".People give you hints, but once you change you cannot go back until the next puzzle. I have not used easy mode though nor do I plan to. There is also an optional part in every puzzle that will give you a gold folder for hard or silver folder for easy. The folders have some really cool info about the world and other things and I highly suggest trying to do them if you can. It really adds to the immersion factor the game has.
Also added a flowchart function to the game for all of the routes, rooms and choices. The best part is that you can pick a location to start at once you see it so you can just go back to a branching decision instantly. One of the best features I have ever seen in a VN.
At Phi's route (true end) you will literally get mind fucked. The morphogenetic field really gets abused in this game. I had to play the true route twice to piece it all together.
The ending is kind of cut-off. You still don't know Phi's true purpose and identity. I guess they saved the rest of the story for the 3rd installment. In 999, all the events were nicely tied together before the end except for the Egyptian queen scene.
Overall, magnificent game. Not as good as 999 but it's definitely close. Both games have brilliant story writing. The only thing I didn't liked about VLR is the pacing and the subcharacter endings. I feel that they could have done much better. 8.5/10
