Thank you. :) I'd never used the software before yesterday, so I'm still getting to grips with it a bit, but it hasn't been too bad. I spent quite a bit of time on this but a lot of that was finding the right fonts, shadow effects and the like.

I am pretty pleased with it though. Still not entirely sure about the fonts and colours on the front page, I've gone through about twenty combinations, but I'll certainly look to use this as a template if people like it.

Though, I feel like the background for the cover should have some kind of design instead of a solid color. In addition, there should be a custom made banner for the Contents page, and not our beloved noodle girl. Something unique to the e-zine, perhaps.
You could also add some pictures of little figures next to each content title, like a character representing it, because theres a bit too much space left over if it's going to take the entire page. For example, for "Hentai worth Watching", you can get an artist to make a chibified version of Momoka in front of a TV screen. This would make the e-zine a bit more attractive, though it's certainly nothing mandatory.

For the contents page, how about a Momoka comic strip? It'll say "Contents" and have a mini comic strip where Momoka does something cute/funny/yandere/fail?

Maybe a page dedicated towards VNs and Video Games? A strip where you highlight the best lolz IB has to offer in that given month?

That looks really nice, considering you just started using it recently!

Also, how's the staff team coming along? Is it still on the thinking stage or did you start hiring people for it already?

Another question (a stupid one at that, lol), will anyone be allowed to contribute articles, if will take in certain users for article writing?

A background design would be great, I'm just not sure if I can get someone to make one for each issue. It might also take away emphasis from the text and character. And above all, it's easy for me. I think with a lot of this stuff I have to be realistic, because I'm probably not going to get much help, at least immediately.

With the general design, I took four magazines as samples from my house when I was doing this, and there emerged two themes in the covers: either a plain background with people in the middle, and then text around the sides, or a picture w/ bg in the middle with bars of content overlaid at the top, bottom and side/s. As a general theme, I went for clear and simple over the content clutter.

I used the banner purely for nostalgia, seeing as it doesn't exist on the site any more. A custom made one would be ideal but again, I'm working with what I've got. I'll see about getting one sorted, there could be a different one each issue, but whether or not to everyone else's chagrin, I personally quite like it there. :p

I like the idea of figures for sections, which could easily be reciprocated on the pages themselves, but again it's getting someone to do that. It's also infeasible that every section every issue could have a new one. Maybe for the regular sections when we get into it.



You mean to replace the banner? Could be good. Problem there is whether the white text would overlay clearly. Background of the strip would need to be dark.

The VN suggestions were going to be in the 'HWW' section but could easily comprise their own section. And I haven't asked Kaimax yet, that was just a thought. :p The forum review would include a tongue-in-cheek look at IB and elsewhere.



Just beginning to ask people about contributing. As BLZ says, anyone will be able to pitch an idea, and if it sounds good, we'll green light it. It should then get in unless it needs tonnes of improvement; a bit of editing isn't a problem if the author is happy for us to do that. And of course people can write something first and then present it, which is even better for us in terms of having it there rather than just someone's word that they'll do it. I just want to save people effort if the idea isn't up to scratch.

Although I am a little late, I am actually quite intrigued by your idea. I wouldn't mind helping out with some of the articles, assuming I am given the opportunity to do so based on my limited abilties.

- The fakku! banner behind the render is a HUGE NO NO. You can't even tell it says fakku!. You want the word fakku! to be the focal point of the image, the first thing that the viewer sees, so you know exactly what you are reading. The render image comes last to any text, all text should be above the render. (also fakku! seems kinda bland and too broad, may i suggest something like fakku! insider for the name of the magazine.)

- Your white text on a light coloured background makes the words terribly hard to see. You'll either have to outline the words or change the colour of the text. I like the latter.

- The pink colour as a background is undesirable, pink in general is colour you should avoid, it hardly matches with any other colour and makes things just look tacky. Personally i'd use an all white background. This is because white creates the most illusion of space. Contrast and legibility also stem well from it and not to mention any colour goes well with it.

- The image also suffers from balancing issues. The top, bottom and left all have something on its foreground but to the right of the image there is this giant hole. Dunno what you can put in there, maybe move the contents on the bottom to the right. Actually that brings me to the point that putting the extra "PLUS" information on the bottom is bad. It can easily be missed albeit it is a vital piece of the magazine cover. Sure you don't want it overshadowing the title or the eye grabbing text on the left, but you don't want it not to be read either. Things reserved to the bottom of a magazine are usually legal tidbits or if you've run out of room.

My scanner died on me and I don't have a camera, so I hopped onto photoshop and threw this together instead. (Nowhere near similar to what I had drafted up, but this doesn't look to bad, either)

Although I do think that it may detract from the main purpose of the site. Being a hentai website, after all- I'm not sure if we oughter put more focus on it, or whether it should even grab the spotlight itself, and have the other stuff sidelined completely.

Guess it depends on how exactly you would like to present it- try for something more PG-like, or sod it and have hentai front and center?

Fakku down the bottom = BAD. People read up to down not down to up. The fakku! logo should be the first thing people read.

Same use of font = bad. Everything looks the same which makes things boring.

All the font relatively the same size is bad also. When you look at it you don't know what to look at, your brain is just confused as to what is what. The brain naturally likes to focus on one thing at a time, for example when you look at your screen, your screen comes into focus in your eye while everything else to the corners and to the sides of your eyes draws out of focus and blurs. When creating an image you've got to create a nice balance of focus points for the eye to naturally follow. (This is usually done by size or contrast)

Hmmmm, the Fakku! logo doesn't have to be big. Just somewhere by itself and legible. That way, the magazine doesn't have to be just about Fakku!, but also what it endorses? Just my opinion here. Also, the pink font border looks gayfabulous. And the Homura pic's too big.

I agree that the title needs to be at the top, but I like the intricate background. That's the problem I was faced with, though: if you use a character as the centrepiece, you can't overlay it, and layering it underneath with a complex background might detract from the look of both.

Semi-transparent block at the bottom is good, and I needed to find a new font style or something for the text there anyway. I messed about with positioning the features/sub-features higher up but decided that it left too big a gap from the bottom text.

I don't think the same font style has to be boring if you use different sizes and colours, and keep it punchy, as I tried to do with mine. But it's either that route or one of significant variation, with multiple colours and styles daubed all over it. :p Anesthetize has shown me a rough example which works well in that regard; I've given my feedback on it and we'll see what emerges. I'll leave it to him to post it up when he's ready, so we can discuss the merits of all of them.

On PG vs R rated, I want the forums and users to be central to the zine. It will have adult language but I don't intend to plaster it with smutty pictures. It should be interesting to read but clean cut and relatively respectable.

That was rather optimistic on my part :P we discussed design ideas but Anesthetize, who is doing the design work now, had been busy with proper work and so things ground to a halt.

But I've been meaning to bump this, because we are good to go now! I've got a few writers busy writing and others contacted. I personally have up until the end of September to see to it that this gets released, but I would hope that it'll be done by say, the 10th.

Once my research gets a bit more in-depth, I'd love to write a piece on modern era hentai history, or maybe on female ero-mangakas!

i have only one question is there an artist page? where you can submit some of your works to.

I'll probably make another thread soon, maybe in random, to outline contributions that we could do with. I really need to get into the nitty gritty and go through the overall design with Anesthetize before I start asking for anything else.

Otherwise we might end up with a surplus that might not be as relevant if and when we make another issue.
