well, I think for one moment. the kind of system might be good for the Winter Event.
no word limits, no competitions, only people submitting things according to the theme and we all could have fun together by reading and reviewing each others' works.
maybe you guys would prefer the competition stuff, which is also fine. but I'm more on the event thingy. which reminds me, you people probably want to put out the Spring Event for the first time somewhere along late February - March or so, let's just adopt this system on that case - I like how it works.
I disagree with having them all non-competition based. I am a very strong advocate of the Winter Seasonal staying as a main, competitive writing contest. Not only does it give a strong incentive in that it has prizes, which in turn sometimes draws in new users to this subforum, but it also gives writers a chance to be judged fairly and to see where they rank in terms of writing ability.
The word limit for the Winter Seasonal provides a very real challenge. And the fact that a piece is judged not only on quality but on other factors such as theme and grammar adds another layer of challenge. Ranking top 3 or being recognized in the Winter Seasonal is a really big achievement and feels very rewarding. Even when not winning, it sets a bar for a writer to achieve.
I don't mind having spring/summmer/fall events or competitions at all, but I would keep at least the Winter Seasonal a competition. I look forward to it every year, and I'm sure others do as well.
