Light Novel Collaboration?

Hello Fakkuers. I'm currently thinking about writing and trying to publish a light novel in Japan. Would anyone like to collabowrite with me? I also need information on the publishing process in Japan. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.

Hmm... are you living in Japan that you're having such plans? I must say that I'm quite the interested one in here.

I would be were I the light novel kind of writer, but I'd still like to see what's what.

I do not live there nor do I speak the language which does pose certain obstacles. I will need to recruit someone who is fluent enough in Japanese to translate the manuscript and to send it to potential publishers. The translator could be the collaborator(s) but doesn't have to be. I realize getting a foreign-written work published in Japan won't be easy but it should be feasible. I haven't come up with a plot yet. I want the person(s) I collaborate with to have a say in that.

Well. I could join up with you on the collaboration since I'm quite interested in it already hopefully it'll have lots of magical elements in it.

This is a sample of a rough copy of a project I'm thinking about doing.


I stared into her deep, purple eyes as if looking into her beautiful, warm soul. I grabbed both of her hands in mine and held them up between us.
"Mi...Miyasawa-senpai?" I tentativley asked.
"Y...Yes Ashikawa-chan?"
Her waist-length, vibrant, sky-blue hair flowed brilliantly behind her in a sudden gust of wind. Other students had begun to gather around us. It was starting to get embarassing so I steeled myself and confessed.
"I like you Miyasawa-senpai! I love you even! Will you go out with me?"
The spectators gasped. A deep embrace was her response. Relief washed over me like a warm summer downpour. Her warmth was a comforting feeling, standing in the cold winter afternoon. After what seemed like an eternity but was actually more like thirty seconds, she pulled back and looked me over. The pink blush on her face was really cute.
"Is that an acceptable answer? And... call me Ayaka."
"Yes it is!" I said, smiling eagerly. "Call me Koyuki then."
"Koyuki... the truth is I've secretly admired you since I accidentally ran into you in the hallway in three months ago. To tell the truth, I was terrified at the thought of confessing to you. I'm so glad you came forward." She replied with the warm, cool smile I always looked for when stealing glances at her in the hall.
Ayaka-senpai moved her face slowly towards mine. What happened next was one moment on huge list of the happiest moments in my life. It was the moment our lips first touched. There, in the school courtyard, surrounded by a student audience, we shared our first kiss. After about fifteen seconds of a deep, innocent kiss we had to stop and take a breath. Taking her hand, I suggested we go to my house for a snack. After all, school was over for the day.
"Sure, I'd love to see your room. My Koyuki must have a really cute room."
Hand-in-hand, we walked out the school gate, towards my house, and a new and blissful life. I noticed a few of the pervy guys looked turned on by the whole thing.
Let them have their fantasies, all I need is Ayaka-senpai.
It only hit me that night as I lay in staring at the ceiling in bed what she had said. She said "My Koyuki."
That's right. I thought. I am your Koyuki and you are my Ayaka-senpai and it'll always be that way.

Ayaka's first visit to my house was kind of awkward at first, but my when I realized my parents didn't know what kind of relation I had with Ayaka-senpai, it felt more normal. They thought I was just bringing a friend home and that was perfectly ok with me.
After watching some TV with my parents, I took Ayaka-senpai up to see my room. My heart was pounding as I opened my door and walked her in.

"I always knew my Koyuki would have a cute room. I'm somewhat of an otaku myself." she said, referring to the manga on my bookshelf. "It looks like we both have the same secret hobby."
"You're so cool Ayaka-senpai!" I was overjoyed at this.
We had sitting on the edge of my bed been talking about anime, manga and games for nearly an hour when Ayaka-senpai mentioned a game I hadn't heard of before.
"It's one of my favorites. It's called Sono Hanabira ni kuchizuke wo. I heard about it on this English website called Fakku.net. It's really exciting." Ayaka-senpai blushed and began to breathe more heavily.
"That's a different title, what's it about?"
Ayaka-senpai leaned close and whispered in my ear. "I'll show you."
She leaned forward and kissed me. It was different though. This time her tongue was on top of mine, moving around trying to taste every part of my mouth it could. Her soft, gentle hands stroked my shoulder-length blonde hair as she guided my slight body down onto the bed. Ayaka-senpai lifted up my skirt. My eyes suddenly grew wide as I felt a warm hand on the inside of my white panties. She ended the kiss.
"Want to see how the rest of the game goes?"
I was soaking wet already. I'm pretty sure my panties were probably transparent. At that moment I wanted nothing more than to feel every inch of her body, but there was too much of a risk of being caught.
"My parents are going out to dinner tomorrow. It's too dangerous now. Let's do it then."
Ayaka-senpai looked disappointed as she pulled her hand out of my panties and laid down on top of me. "Ok, but I'm going to show you the extra scenes too." she pouted. Seeing my cool Ayaka-senpai pout was really cute.
We laid there that way until my mom called us for supper. Her forehead pressed against mine, her purple eyes staring into my maroon ones, her developed breasts warming my small chest. I felt a wonderful peace knowing my Ayaka-senpai loved me.


I can still enter this in the writing contest as long as no one corrects it right?

This feels so weird, so I have to ask... where did you get your Fakku name? How'd you come up with it, essentially.

Excellent. If you're serious about doing this we could take a look at different plots or maybe reevaluate this one with some magical girls or something (after the writing contest of course). This doesn't have to be what we do. It was just an inspiration that I wrote down in about ten minutes.

Actually, it's really close to how I came up with mine. I joined together the names of Ganondorf and Zant.

Also, don't try to double post. One of the most basic way to quote more than one is to manually quote the posts, which involves copypasting, though.

The question is, can you write in Japanese? Because no one's going to read it if it isn't in Japanese.

Just so you know, through translation the meaning changes. Because you have no understanding of the language, ultimately you have no control over that work and you can't quite say it's yours.

I do understand that that this process will be very complicated and difficult but nothing is impossible. I do understand how certain phrases in English can have completely different meanings in Japanese but subbed anime and manga still retains most of it's meaning so I think this should be feasible with the right translator. As far as the work being mine, I would still own the characters, the plot, and the story itself but a lot of the minor details would no longer belong to me.

No. It hasn't even been written yet. It's just an idea right now. It could turn out to be a project like Katawa Shoujo was or it could be nothing. It all depends on the level of effort put into it.

Interesting, it sounds like you had planned for it to be exclusive to Japanese almost. I realize that you are planning to distribute it with Japan, but is there something holding you back from circulating it in places like the US? Rather than a collaborator, it sounds more like you are looking for someone that would be willing to translate your work. In that case, it might be better to have some material already done.

Lets say you found a translator who is translating at the speed that you write your chapters. But, if something urgent happens along the way, say you have classes and you need to catch up, or a family member dies, etc etc, then you, the writer, would have to stop. This effecectively inhibits the translator, since they no longer have any material to work on. I feel that by having some of the work done, you'd have a margin of error/freedom.

Is there a reason that you'd like to distribute it to Japan? Just out of curiosity.

But still, in the end the final draft is written by your translator and not you. If anything you should write a story in english first, publish it in America then translate it. Perhaps you should do what Reki Kawahara did and do an online novel. If it does well then people will come to you.

I would have to agree with Sprite on this one, trying to publish something exclusively in a language you don't understand is, well, stupid.
