Interesting, it sounds like you had planned for it to be exclusive to Japanese almost. I realize that you are planning to distribute it with Japan, but is there something holding you back from circulating it in places like the US? Rather than a collaborator, it sounds more like you are looking for someone that would be willing to translate your work. In that case, it might be better to have some material already done.
Lets say you found a translator who is translating at the speed that you write your chapters. But, if something urgent happens along the way, say you have classes and you need to catch up, or a family member dies, etc etc, then you, the writer, would have to stop. This effecectively inhibits the translator, since they no longer have any material to work on. I feel that by having some of the work done, you'd have a margin of error/freedom.
Is there a reason that you'd like to distribute it to Japan? Just out of curiosity.
The main reason I want to distribute it in Japan is the lack of a market in other countries for the type of yuri/magical girl story I want to do. Even if there were a market I don't think publishers would go for it. In regards to the translator, he/she wouldn't necessarily have to be the collaborator. The collaborator will basically be someone who writes as much of and has as much say in the story as I do. It is a good idea to get a head start before I find a translator which is what I was already planning on anyway. I just wanted to get the word out in case someone could do it or knew someone who could.
