The impact of the ship was astounding, not only did it manage to knock me out but I also seemed to have been separated from the rest of Echo. Looking around, I did not recognise at all my whereabouts and it was only until I started to walk a direction that a sharp sense of pain shot through my body. Inspecting the source, I discovered a shard of metal had penetrated into my right calf, it looked to be around 4 cm in length but thats only the outside, no knowing how far it’s gotten in.
After setting out my medical kit, I grabbed hold of the shard, bracing for a surge of pain which would follow once I pulled it out. The shard left with little resistance and the pain was not as significant as I thought it would be, inspecting it, I found that it had only penetrated not even an inch through. A bit anti-climatic I thought to myself but nevertheless, I started treating immediately.
Having dealt with my injury, I only now realized that the ship was building up with smoke. Nothing serious for myself as I had my headscarf covering my face but in a situation like this, taking care of all the civilians was priority. I scanned my surroundings once more and headed down a direction I thought was best, as I walked down, I ran my hand down the side trying to feel for a room on the other side.
A few minutes walking down and I felt a change in the wall’s density, giving it a tap, I confirmed the presence of a cavity on the other side. I walked along the wall, measuring how far it spanned before finally feeling solid wall once more. From my estimation, I guessed it was several meters wide, a closet to a room?
I grabbed a medium bar of carbon steel and steadily struck one of the panels in the wall, gradually creating an indentation before finally sending it flying inside the room. Peaking inside, it was quite dark but I made out a few bottles and boxes, I reached inside and even before my whole arm went in I hit a wall, though it was quite loose, from this I assumed it was a door of some sort and slid it aside, revealing a bright light. It didn’t take long for my eyes to adjust and figure out where I was. This was a utility room, full of all sorts of mechanical whatnot that the maintenance team uses, I crawl into the room and search around before finding a workbench. Scanning across, I recognised a few of the tools but the one caught my eye, a hand held plasma cutter used to cut through all sorts of metals. I figured it would come in handy so I grabbed it as I left and continued across the room, once again running my hand across the wall. As I turned at the corner, I once again felt the hollow space across the wall, following procedure, I walked across the wall to estimate how wide the space was but I ran out of wall. Whatever it was, it was bigger than the room so I started up the plasma cutter which shot out a steady, cool flame and started making a hole into the wall.
With the last of the cutting done, I kicked down my cut panel and was revealed a scene of plain landscape, I almost mistook it for snow but the climate was enough to drive out my hopes, it was sand and we were in the middle of a dune. I almost let out a sigh, I don’t really enjoy hot climates, and turn back to the room where I spotted the door at the wall across.
”Right, no time to groan, priority is getting civilians to safety outside.” I said as if trying to reassure myself. I leave the room into a corridor of the ship, smoke is starting to build up but still nothing too bad, I examine my surroundings and spot a sign, reaching for the PTT, I contact John.
”Echo-Actual, this is Echo-2, come in Actual” I pause for a moment in case he replied before continuing, ”Situation is growing critical, the ship is building up with dangerous amounts of smoke. I’ve located an exit out of the ship in Utility room G in District B9. Caution, outside terrain is desert, repeat desert terrain outside. Will locate any civilians and lead them out the ship. Echo-2 Out”
I sigh after the transmission and start dashing down the corridor, best decision is to check the town center where I escorted those people.
