Epilogue: 18 years latter.
It's been 18 years since Alexander was borne, Since then We have had a second child Katie Anne She was born when Alexander was 11. After Katie was born, the Loft was no longer big enough for a family of our size so we bought a small 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house in the suburbs outside of the city. It's wasn't a large house or a grand one but then it was our home. South City books has grown, It is now South Side Bookstores, And there are 7 of them across the state. Alice finally retired last year.
It's been a long rough road. Grandpa Thomas, and Grandpa Jim have both passed on to the next world. Grandma Rinna is in a nursing home and Grandma Jane had a second Wind of life about 5 years ago and went to see the world. She keeps in touch send me stuff from allover the place, Brazil, China, England, France, Germany, Hungry, Japan, Russia, so many places I've lost track of them.
Alexander's graduated the top of his class at the School I graduated from and where I met Alice, when I was a student, and now he's going off to Harvard. Just a chip off the old block, but a hell of a lot smarter. He must get that for his mom.
“Big Brother I'll miss you!” Katie, said as she gave Alexander a hug.
“I'm only going to college,” Alexander said patting his little sister on the head. “I'll be home every so often.”
“Well this is it,” I said, walking with Alice over to where Alexander and Katie were standing. “Alexander, you take good care of yourself, and no matter what, remember me and your mom are proud of you.”
“Just don't get into trouble,” Alice said weeping a little. “Your so much like your father, such the charmer. Find a nice girl one that would make us proud.”
“To hell with that,” I laughed. “If he just picks one girlfriend, I'll be proud of him. If anything He's too much of a charmer.”
“You know I'm standing right here don't you?” Alexander retorted.
“By the way, Your Aunt June and Uncle Henry expect to see you stop by sometime,” I said patting Alexander on the back. “There only a few miles away. If you have any problems Ask them for help.”
“Don't worry,” Alexander said. “I wouldn't be Aunt June's Favorite Nephew if I didn't visit them when I had a chance.”
“Your her only nephew,” Katie laughed.
“And your point is?” Alexander snapped back sarcastically. “Anyways, It's been a while since I saw George and Eric.”
“Well lets get this stuff up there,” I said lugging a box out of the car.
We got the stuff up to the dorm, as we were unpacking the boxes Alexanders Roommate Showed up.
“You must be Alex,” The guy said. “I'm Torin.”
“It's Alexander if you would please,” Alexander corrected. “And it's a pleasure to meet you.”
“Knock knock,” a man said as he entered the room, I guess it was Thorin's father. I looked over and just stared at the spot he was standing in not speaking. “Rin?” The guy asked.
“Bryce?” I asked back. “Is that you?”
“It is you,” Bryce said as he walked over and slapped me on the back. “It's been what twelve years?”
“Yeah,” I said. “I was too busy to make it to the 20 year reunion. I'll try to make it to the 30. But what are you doing here?”
“Thorin is my nephew,” Bryce sad slapping Thorin on the back. “I'm helping him move into his dorm because his parents are busy with business. So this is Alexander huh? Last time I saw you you were six. You've grown quite a bit since then.”
“Hello Bryce,” Alice said standing up. “It's nice to see you again.”
“Alice,” Bryce said looking at her like she just appeared out of thin air. “You look lovely as ever. Are you still teaching?”
“I retired last year,” Alice answered. “But how have you been?”
“Being a DA is not what the TV make it out to be,” Bryce sighed. “But sending those bas... Bad people, to the chair is its own reward.” I could tell he was about to say bastards but when he caught sight of Katie he cut him self short and stopped from saying it. “And who is this little angel?”
“This is Katie,” I said patting Katie on the head as she clung to my leg. “Katie, this is Bryce, he's an old friend of mine from back in my high school days.”
“Hello,” Katie said letting go of my leg. “Nice to meet you.”
“The pleasures all mine,” Bryce said squatting down to shake Katie's hand.
We sat and talked for a little while before we all ended up leaving the boys. It was starting to get late and Katie was starting to fall asleep, so it was time we left. I gave Alexander one last Pat on the back and said my finally good bye as I walked out of the door carrying Katie who had fallen asleep in my arms as Alice gave him a hug. We got home it was past midnight, I carried Katie into her bedroom and put her in her bed and gave her a kiss goodnight.
I walked into the bedroom that me and Alice shared. Alice was sitting on the edge of the bed. Tears were in her eyes. “Whats wrong?” I asked her sitting down beside her and putting my arm around her.
“Our little boy is growing up so fast,” She said wiping the tears from her eyes.
“I know,” I said tightening my grasp around her. “It's seems like just yesterday that he was just starting kindergarten. But we still have Katie with us and Alexander said he'd come home every so often. It's late, lets get to bed.”
“Sure,” Alice said wiping her eyes once more and grabbing me in a hug. “Thank you.”
“Your welcome,” I said embracing her. She did not need explain why she said that, She was thanking me for cheering her up. Which I did subconsciously, spending the past 22 years of my life with her, has caused it to happen naturally. I could never stand to see Alice sad so I do what ever I could to cheer her up. “Alice, I love you.”
“And I love you too Rin,” Alice said, kissing me. “Always and forever.”
Who would have ever thought that Jessica gave me something this great. She gave me the life I have now. If it wasn't for the lust that we had for each other, I would have never been sent to that school, and I would have never met Alice, and then I would probably not be where I am today, Married, with two great kids, and a small chain of book stores.
