Valentine's Day Writing Contest

Yep. The bane of master list maintainers since some months ago. I'm sure Gambler or Tsujoi will stop by soon enough.

I'm still not understanding the peer judging system though, can you ummm... evaluate a little on that please?

Basically, using the point system provided, I'm hoping people who read the stories will be able to leave a score.
After that, depending on how many scores are given, I might just take five random scores and average it out and that'll be the score for the given piece. The highest score wins obviously.

Another way I might just do it maybe just get a panel of five judges... Each assigns a score to the piece. We'll drop the highest and lowest score and average the middle three and that'll be your score. I want the people to read though.

Depends on how it goes... Haha.

People posting in threads would be tough, since the sheer amount of threads being made would guarantee some make it to the 3rd/4th page without replies. So, why don't we just have people PM one of a few handpicked people, who relay the scores back to you?

I understand, can the participants of the contest do the judging too?

Also, I think it may be better to get a panel of Judges too. Get some good judges?

But really... this time around, its a baka that organized a contest.

If you couldn't I'd be shocked, mangaka. I'm almost positive you can have a mix of genres.

Its 40% chance that he'll accept that though. The guy wants nothing but romance but then again, who'd fight at Valentines instead of loving?

Since the rules state that the story or poem can be anywhere from 1 to 20,000 words, you do not have to write 20,000 words. The rule just states that it can be long.

Now for the contest, I might enter. Having yet to know the results for the last contest and the fact that I may not feel like writing a super long story, I don't know if I will enter or not. It does sound fun though.
Not being able to use those words in a poem is challenging so I think I'll stick with a story if I do enter. :D

I never bothered to ask but can Staff participate? I'm not really sure i'm going to if I can but i would like to know. Also any word on what the prize will be? (if i could win a title would be a poor prize for me).

As for the prize... I was thinking of getting any doujin you want to see translated get translated...

Has to be reasonable, but I need a translator to agree with it first. Haha.
I will probably do the editing of course.

Actually I don't aim for the prizes, taking part in this contest is a reward by itself.

Just my way of saying there's no limit really. I highly doubt anyone would go over those limits. If they did, I would be impressed.
Also... Are you really going to read something that sucks for as long as it does? If it is really bad... I might only read half and grade the half I read. Haha.

@GoverCleaveland I believe Noel mentioned it had to be romantic without the words that he mentioned as forbidden.

@Shogai Once again I read your post and I found you said some things about my story 'Yuki no Joo' (Mistress of Snow) ch.00, first, I tried to make it look clean and I tried my best with grammar as well, the part about she is popular with everyone but can't get along doesn't really have many problems, for example, in Clannad, you'll see Tomoyo being popular with everyone but at the same time she didn't really get along with people now did she, then comes the part about the otaku, seriously, does all the otaku out there go around saying that they are otakus? Some doesn't and some does. It depends, and in here Mira keeps it a secret until it slid out of her mouth when speaking to Sora. I may have forgotten to mention that part that she kept it a secret. I may have missed it because of the sickening word limit but it was intended that way. Also, she is popular because of her beauty, I thought everyone could get that, then at last, the tsundere thing, normally, many rich girls are tsunderes, tell me how its useless please? Character development was super crappy I KNOW and I even mentioned it in the thread (on my second post in there) that I couldn't get things to flow correctly, what else do you want? And as I mentioned on my above post, I was talking about the way people wrote not the plots of their stories.

Some way you used to directly insult someone. What I said is very true but if assumed that you understood what I was implying, then you're dead wrong, I don't think my entry was badly written. And it isn't all that great either, I know, Twilight's, Grover, Mibu, Xenon and some other' entriess were written nicely and properly you know, and I didn't say that every single participant's entries were badly written either.

I have to agree with Classy here though, but Im not sure how a post gets sticked, so Ill just show my support for his suggestion. The Food and Cooking Contest is here

Also, a suggestion in the rules could be that the titles have to be titled [Contest Entry] "title of entry here", as when there are topics named "Valentine's Poem Entry" and "Valentine's Day Poetry entry", I can imagine some confusion later down the line...
