This story really needs a prequel if there isn't one already. They have such a interesting relationship that I would love to see how they got together.

The best I can figure is the guy is an old childhood friend who is about a decade younger than the woman. She works as a dentist and he moved in with her to attend college. At some point they got together and now they're dating.

What's cool is that this chapter shows the awkward realities of such a relationship. He has probably dreamed most of his life about taking care of and providing for this woman, and the closer he is the more he realizes it is further away. She is a top performer who will have an incredibly successfully life, and the best he can hope is to follow a path just as successful. Unfortunately, the ven if he does he will still be a decade behind and may never overcome the gap unless she chooses to stop. He can't escape the younger brother, and he can't ignore that he is a burden to her.
