It is definitely a cultural difference. Consent is navigated differently across the Pacific. I also initially disliked the lack of consent present in many hentai stories. As I read more and realized that my discomfort was partly due to cultural differences, I started learning to appreciate it for the fiction it is. I still find rape repulsive, but understand that the myriad portrayals we encounter on this platform run a layered cake strata.
