That's quite the title...But the promise of a series with some adorable catgirls sounds great.
I actually kind of like the friendship the protagonist has with his junior officer, they seem like good friends.
I must say though, 'disposing' of them just because they're undocumented seems a little sad. I mean, he may have protected her, but I can't help but feel bad for those that didn't have the luxury of being found/taken in by him.
Certainly an intriguing cliffhanger ending, too! I somehow don't think she's the same one as the one that took care of him, but maybe they're related somehow...Maybe a daughter? Or perhaps the original was taken in and cloned or...something, which resulted in the aforementioned 'defect'? I'm thoroughly interested now...And want to see what happens next!
