Buy DVDs and books, damn it!

This has been mentioned countless times, but it popped into my head again recently so I'm going to share it. Ignore/flame if you hate me, I don't care. With all of the bans coming into place, anime and manga are slowly reaching death. Admit it. You know what else is killing it? Piracy. Do any of you actually buy DVDs anymore? "But they're too fucking expensive!" Yes, they are. They're ridiculously expensive. But they sort of need to be. Sure, you can get them for much cheaper via other methods that don't actually pay the creators/company (Amazon Sellers, eBay, etc) but once in a while, does it really hurt to shell out $30-$40 to support something you love? "Nothing good ever gets to the states!" God damn it if this isn't true, but it's also a matter of opinion of what's "good." Will KissxSis or Oreimo ever reach American shores? Fuck no, because the country's so much of a fucking pussy when it comes to taboo that they'd rather stop it entirely. Don't want little Billy finding something that has a girl kissing her brother with tongue! "But (anime's) dub sucks ass! I prefer the GLORIOUS JAPANESE!" Opinion. There's always someone out there who likes it, and you shouldn't assume your opinion is better than anyone else's. It isn't. And a lot of anime isn't even dubbed these days, just subbed (Dokuro-chan, for example, is on DVD in the states, but it's just subbed.) If you hate dub voices, 99% of them have JP w/Sub options for you. "Stop bitching, no one cares what you think!" There, I said it so you don't have to.

I buy or stream all my anime legally.Official Funi/bandai/AniplexUS anime Youtube pages,Hulu Plus,Netflix,Crunchyroll Premium,PSN Store,Zune,Amazon,and Rightstuf all tie into my anime selection.

I support the anime industry fully especially the anime/manga I enjoy.

I download the fansubs for shows and download manga. But if I like the show/manga enough and its legally available I will most certainly buy it. I have done this always. I support the stuff I like. Unfortunately some things never make it overseas so I have no choice but to choose the less than legal means. For example, I would love to physically own the ToLoveRu manga in English, but Viz has never brought it over to the states.

I wonder when I buy a series locally or import from a company online, just how much of the price tag actually reaches the original team who created the product?

I long for a day where the creators distribute their wares directly to the consumers. That way I know who I'm supporting.

None... it like buying a cd of some band... it cost 13.99... they get like 7 cents... same with anime and manga.. pennies on the dollar... but they get a check when it get publish and royalties from it's name... that what make them money.

Anyways, I intend to buy some dvds soon, I already purchased some(Working!!, Toradora) at the convention I attended earlier this month, just deciding what to get, I can't afford to get all the titles I want so I can only get what I really wanna have on my shelf, but ofc I do plan to pick up everything on my list some day.
