[General] Do you learn names of characters quickly?

When watching a new series I find myself sometimes needing to hear character names a few times in a few episodes before remembering them, less so if they're the protagonists (obviously). It also sometimes gets confusing when first and family names are both used due to formalities and all that good stuff. I think I know more first names than full (both first and family) names. But when I used to bone Naruto I knew all their first and surnames, though I've forgotten most of them now as I haven't seen it in over a year.

But then again a lot of the time, there will be a character that really stands out to me and I remember their name easily. I guess it depends on the anime and which characters interest you the most.

What about you guys?

I used to have a bit of trouble doing it, now its not that hard for me. After watching the show for a while names sink in and I remember them.

I have an easier time learning first names than last names because it's very rare they mention the surname more than once in the series

Depends on what genre of anime im watching and how much the character does. Otherwise it's not extremely hard. :3

Yep, but if they have a western name or a badass nickname I remember it a lot easier.

unless they have a unique name (like tk from Angel Beats!) I can't remember half of the names of the characters only really the main character(s). this might be because they typically use Japanese names so It hard for me a north American to remember it.

on a side note related to the topic picture i could probably name 90% of the pokemon.

it's easier to remember character names if I really like the series. If i'm not really into it then would care less about the name but that rarely happens to me.

Almost instantly. By the second episodes I'll probably know that name for the next few months then shove it in a dark corner of my long term memory until it comes up again.

It's hard for me. I remembered the names of the characters in Fullmetal Alchemist in almost two episodes, though, they have easy names. Anything else, I'll need at least six episodes of hearing their names.

Depends if I want to see them naked or not.

I can click with those simple easy to remember mamess bit if its uncommon or long like a 10 or more letter name it takes me a few call-outs to remember by heart.

Depends how many characters there are, and how often they appear. But usually, yes.

It depends on how much I like the series and how important the characters are or seem to be. The characters with long and/or hard to pronounce names I consciously put effort into learning. No guarantees on long term memory without at least looking back at it.

Hyperbole for I used to be obsessed with it.

I'm terrible with names. I still confuse Tomoyo with Tomoya.

for some reason i remember anime character names more than i remember names of people in the real world... weird but its worth it =P

Same goes here. It takes me at least 3 or 4 episodes to not get confused with the main characters, and the side characters.

We both have the same issue, cause of the Japanese excuse for manners. Using both first and family last names always confuses me in points through out the series. Which leads to missing high lights of the story...

Not at all. Only learn the ones of the main character, if that even :P
