Saw episode 2...

I do suggest that for those who haven't to please wait for Ayako subs or at the very least wait for Whine-Subs to release a V2. The quality wasn't the greatest (though tolerable) and the translations were fine (by which I mean the English grammar was fine...I can't speak for the accuracy of the translations).

However, a glaring issue was that the timing of the subs was off. I am very certain I played the episode without any lag, and the subs appeared at least a quarter second after the words were spoken. This doesn't seem like much, but when you are a seasoned viewer and your eyes are conditioned to look down the instant anyone talks, this delay is glaring and annoying. It also seemed to get worse as the episode went on.

EDIT: It got a LOT worse as the episode went on. At LEAST a one-second delay in the preview for ep. 3

But I digress; Ayako are pretty fast themselves and for most of you this will be a non-issue.

My thoughts on the episode...I do mention plot-related events, so don't read unless you've seen the episode or just don't care.

Most of us were wrong! Ichika Lost! I am VERY happy to see that he is ridiculously offense-based, as I am a hater of all things defense-oriented. It's why I can't play mmorpgs. I die so fast it's hilarious and lose everything.

Houki's tsundereness seemed unnatural. I don't know. Ichika seems blissfully unaware of her interest. What else is new?

Lady Alcott has fallen for the protagonist. We all saw this coming, but...meh...

I am convinced that I irrationally look forward to the next episode way too much in these kinds of shows. Ms. Lin looks like she is a forward kind of girl who will not shy away from the protagonist. She is now my favorite girl in this show and I haven't heard her say a word yet (excluding the increasingly weirder first minutes of the entire show). Her facial expressions were delightful. Fangs = WIN.

I found it rather confusing that they allowed Ichika to fight before the first 'shift' or w/e it was. Given how he absolutely destroyed her afterwards, it looked like he went from Magikrap to Gyarados.

All in all, the story is fairly predictable but enjoyable. I shall wait for episode 3 with fervor.

Just watched the second episode, and I can happily say it is going in the direction I was hoping it would.

Beeza has said everything I was going to say about the second episode, so do read her spoiler (if you have seen the episode/don't care about spoilers)

There is still room for this series to become more Mecha Vs unknown enemy, especially with
Spoiler:
Tabane Sinonono (Houki's sister) gone missing
, but I would be quite happy if it just stayed with Ichika fighting other students too.

Definitely liked this week's action episode.

I just hope (what else can we do but that?), that they won't swamp it completely with "moemoeblob" cut-and-paste.
If they can avoid that, it will probably turn out to be one of those "not mind-blowing but still good" kind of shows.

I liked how Ichika lost because of how unknowing/ignorant he was about the rules, and not because he simply got curbstomped by Blue Tears beam spam and autonomous weapon platforms.

Which reminds me, why are all English people in this kinds of shows a sniper, or a long-ranged character?
Practically in every mecha show/game English always end up as god-dammned snipers. But I digress.


I also liked how they point out that IS system has all sorts of drawbacks and was never perfected (or rather, haven't reached that point yet) compared to your standard mecha weapons.

I agree. If it can maintain it's balance between school life/IS work, it should be quite entertaining. This week's episode's action sequences were quite nice, and I, too, was glad that Ichika lost. If he had one, he would have received a huge ego boost, and it probably would have caused him to act overconfident/rash in a future fight. And hopefully Houki can knock some sense into him in the next episode, (she may literally have to if Ichika falls asleep during the lessons).

2nd EP

A great action epd it was if this keeps up with the school life and IS battles this is gonna be a very entertaining series.

Huh? is that true? As far as I can remember the people here love this anime, and I didn't recall anyone mentioning IS being cliched or predictable except GameON (and me, if you count my previous post). I bothered to check at the first few pages, only saw positive response so far and didn't see any disappointment about how generic IS is as a harem show (the closest one I got is "not original, but it's good"). We even praised the anime for being able to balance the mecha fight and harem bits, also had some good discussions about each episodes without any trolling. Perhaps you mistook this place to another forum.

edit: watched it again and realized.

Episode 7 6... definitely a Charlotte episode. (thanks for pointing out the typo, Bushido-san)

Spoiler:
- How in the f**k she was able to flatten out those breasts to that? Maybe it's a Dunois technology. Or maybe it's kind of like how Motoko Aoyoma does it, but hers is still noticeable. Oh well, small nitpick, seeing they can hide their IS at will at some pocket dimension or something.
- Charlotte got the most girltime this episode - and in the end she's being fed by Ichika. How sweet. And can't shake off that damn foggy censors in the bath ^_^
- Laura - gah, a bit fussy and haughty. But at least she's distinct from Rin, we don't need more bratty lolis, one is enough.
- Am I the only one wishing for a Chifuyu-dominated episode?
- Apparently Ichika is smart enough when the situation calls for it (smart enough to remember clauses in the IS student handbook but dumb enough to not know where his examination place is).
- Charlotte is like a breath of fresh air for Ichika, that's good - not as haughty as Cecilia, not as tsundere as Houki and not as bratty as Rin. Kind of like *hah, I'm beat up by those sassy ladies, thankfully here's a normal one*


On a side note, I just read the manga version of IS, and it pretty much... meh. Not as cute as the LN illustrations. But the plot is good. In short, story is good but art is below it.

Huge thanks to ZeKer for this - enjoy some eye candy, dudes and dudettes.

Ahh Germany was so pimpin, can't wait to see her getting conquered by our oblivious MC. Kinda disappointed after seeing Rin and Cecilia didn't get any spotlight and turned into some gag characters that got their ass kicked most of the time.

I liked episode 8 quite a bit. Now, HAREM COMPLETE. Over.

Spoiler:
- So that "Valkyrie Trace System"... it'll play a bigger part next time, I guess.
- It's a tough call between Charlotte and Laura as to whose girl got the "Ichika advantage" today; Charlotte got in a long bath with Ichika, naked, while Laura got the harem's first long kiss to Ichika. But I'd give it to Charlotte - getting in naked with that guy in a bath, in private, is a plus over a 5-second kiss.
- Next episode: BEACH! Got a friggin' lot of eye candy, I suppose. Ichika better be prepared to have boobs and asses purposefully thrown in his direction.
- I dunno about Chifuyu's "tough teaching", letting the students handle that one. May come to bite her at some point.
- Wonder when Houki'll get her own IS (episode-wise).

well, if you saw the first episode, it's obvious that she will. It'll probably in an episode involving her sister.

[spoil]I know that this isn't the most inspirational series, but I was expecting something more of a reason for Laura to hate Ichika... Characters really have no depth at all. O well. Charles Charlotte is the best.
