Most Overrated Anime Series?

It's really a tie between Naruto and Bleach. Both feel like they will never end...Even though Bleach has.
The arcs in both of them are dull, and repetitive, all out to rescue someone and fight for glory. Yes, I have watched both up to the latest arc. I don't know why I continued. =-=;;;

Same here on both accounts. About half of the American fanbase for the show are a bunch of preteens who think it is the best thing since sliced bread. How these characters are considered ninjas is beyond me. I thought the word ninja always meant a covert agent or mercenary wo dealt with espionage, sabotage, assassination, etc. Instead we get a bunch of idiots who fling elemental destruction while monologuing inbetween attacks.

Hell, Flame of Recca is looked at as old news nowadays. Most of my friends who enjoy anime/manga had never even heard about the series before I showed them.

Too true. Well, the beginning was promising at least. The introduction of chakra and the skills was pretty cool but then later on it turned into an all out fight fest that is totally not ninja.

To me, the ones they call "The Big 3" of shonen is heavily overrated. By big 3, I mean Naruto, Bleach and One-Piece. Fucking dragged out to death!

That's so true. I'm just happy they finally cancelled Bleach's anime. It was beyond annoying when they released a filler arc everytime the original was just getting good. The anime for Naruto just grates on my nerves due to horrible voice acting on both the Japanese and American versions. I was originally a fan of One Piece but I have gotten tired of how long it has went on. I think it's past 600 chapters now?

One of my major gripes about "The Big 3" would be the character development. You would thing that after so many years and volumes of manga released that the main characters would have matured. Instead, these characters have yet to show any progression from when they were introduced. We still have "The Big 3 Clueless Bakas" for our viewing (dis)plesure. When I sit down to read or watch anime, I want to have the characters grow from start to finish. I want them to be able to look back and see how all their failures and triumphs have made them the person they are in the end. Sure, I enjoy some animes that have little plot like everyone else. But come on, when you have over 30 volumes you need to show something for it.

OT: Clannad and Madoka. And I actually liked Madoka.

Most shounen jump shows like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Yu-gi-oh, and DBZ. I always thought Haruhi was more overrated than Lucky Star? (Though Lucky Star is very popular also).

BRS and BLEACH. seriously, there's nothing there. and when i ask some fans they just say "i love a guy that doesn't give up" ...really?? where the heck in JUMP magazine could you find a pessimistic hero who always give up?

2nd, as an OPfag, I must defend its glory!! It's considered overrated because of 2 reasons:

1. Many people make an ass out of themselves to praise it excessively, making people think it's worth less than what it really is.

2. Most are turned off by its art, which hasn't budged far from its original. Because, admit it, in today's modern world, Art > Story

In my opinion, compared to the other two, OP still has its original charm without taking itself too seriously *coughNarutocough*, and the plot is continuously moving after each arc *coughBleachcough*.

So, yeah, it's still overrated, but much less compared to the two.

Overrated and still manages to stay good: One Piece

Overrated and messy: Bleach

I dont think any of those series are bad they're popular for a reason. It's just that they're so friggen long. I cant really think of any that get more attention then not expected atm.

Lucky Star is fucking retarded and ridiculously overrated. The first episode is just about them talking about lunch. It's so stupid.
I like K-On! but I have never heard people call it the "best anime ever"...

Now that Toonami is back, everything on that lineup will probably become overrated.

I voted for Naruto, although Yu-Gi-Oh! was a close second.
