Newer vs. Older Animes

For me, the 'old' anime are but distant memories of childhood, and I want to keep them that way-I rewatched several of my childhood classic, some of which broke my childhood, much to my dismay. So, I like the new ones.

I knew there would be some moe discussion here; remember that the old era of anime also had their own version of 'moe,' just in different shape and form.

It's sad that im watching only one new anime and ovd series... and still catching up on last years stuff.

It really depends on the person. Some might like older animes, some might like newer ones.

For me, it really depends if an anime has a "heart/soul", or rather, one that you can either relate to so much that you can feel the character's emotions or one that can just touch your heart with its story/music/art/pace/cast

Although I can say this.... Manga>Anime, most of the time

Every era has its own good shows, to each their own. However, I find older anime titles are more memorable than newer ones.



^ What he said. What makes me sad is people's definition of moe has narrowed into something simple and mindless like "cute girls doing/saying something cute". And this trend of making more Slice of Life or fanservice anime will continue as long as these kinds of genre keep bringing in more cash than "non-moe" animes. It's not that I hate them (I'm a big SoL fan) but there are other works worthy of getting an anime adaptation and it's sad if studios won't bother to check on them because they are not profitable enough for their business.

Don't you just love seeing Nicol get baseball batted 5 times over and over again the next episode after he died? And see Cagalli's dad burn in that damn fire the same number of times in Destiny and possibly even more? God the guy died more as a flashback in Destiny than in SEED.

I don't really make a division between "old" and "new". It's a continued evolution of styles, animation, stories, etc.

Every year had it's share of awesome shows, and those that were total trash.
But all of that has been said already, so why doing recaps.

I prefer newer anime, simply because of the art style.
I never got a taste for old anime art styles. I've tried, but to no avail.

Nah. I prefer judging anime more on story and content over animation and graphic quality. I mean, I'd rather watch Gundam Wing over Gundam SEED Destiny. Same way that I slightly prefer Kampfer over Ranma 1/2.

It always boils down to watchers' preferences.

But we can never forget the classics that started it all

I give my vote to "old animes" cause if weren't for them we wouldn't have today great series, Of course I enjoy watching the dissapearance of haruhi (mostly for the novels that are great) or katanagatari, their animation is superb and have great plots, but I also enjoy mirai shounen konan or macross which are just as good or IMO better.

I find that I have a harder time enjoying older animes just because the animation quality isn't as good. They're also a little harder to find and tend not to have HQ uploads available (I had this issue when I wanted to go back and re-watch some of the Gundam shows).

As far as story goes, I like them both equally, but I voted for newer anime over older because the animation is so much better.

Old anime for the story.
New anime for the art.

Cant really decide there are many good new and old anime out there..I just dont like those anime that gives to much fan service and have a very confusing plots.

Old as, in ~20 years sucks.

I'm surprised how many people said the newer shows have better arts. The newer shows have CLEANER arts and better ANIMATIONS.

In terms of details and art, many of the newer shows can't compete with the hand drawn details of the older shows.

I vote for Older anime. As how i love both of them, i still find that older anime is much more memorable compare to the newer anime nowadays.

For Example: For myself sometimes i could even went back to Youtube only to look some memorable scene from Older anime(Hokuto no Ken: Raoh's dead,Gundam especially Gihren's speech, Ashita no Joe: Joe's dead scene,Macross 7: Last boss battle where the boss is defeated by hearing Basara's Song, BlackJack anime(i don't know whether i should conclude this old or not as the anime is quite new however the manga is really old and i really love this series.)

However for the newer series the replaybility for the series is sometimes too low for me which is why i choose older anime.

Newer animes because of better animations!

Hard to choose, but each of the times have their ups and downs.

There are alot of great classic old school anime out there, like Akira and the old school Ghost in the Shell for example. But anime as a whole has progressed so much, as far art, graphics stories/plots and fanservice goes. There are definitely alot of new anime out there that're really good too like Ga-Rei Zero and Highschool of the Dead (or whatever genre of anime you prefer).

Well from my point of view, it is still older anime is better compare to anime now.

For example: i love watching Cardfight Vanguard which is modern anime and also Ano hi from this season but the newer anime nowadays just seem to me that they are unable to impress me into the magnitude that i keep replaying the anime or some specific scene and makes me remember all the scenes and important part in the anime.
