It's true that taking Velvet Kiss off Fakku won't limit its distribution but I still think it was right to ask that it be taken off Fakku. If someone was out to get Velvet Kiss without buying it, it's almost impossible to stop that with the power of the Internet. But scanlators should do what ever is in their power to support it, even if it's a wasted effort.

The licensor has the rights to the series in English, and the reason it works that way (and the reason we support it) is so Harumi Chihiro can officially benefit from the English versions of her works. I agree that a free digital preview would be an effective promotional tool, but the publisher is the one that makes that call, and they may need to get approval from the Japanese publisher first.

Awesome. If only the shipping to SG wasn't that expensive. I sent shipments to US on what...4 SGD? 10 USD in my country would mean around 14 bucks. That's very, very expensive for a thin book...that's more expensive than the book itself.

I think you missed the point. Taking Velvet Kiss from Fakku does not limit the ability for anyone to read it online seeing how it's still on a bunch of other manga hosting sites. Then of course since Soba-Scans wanted it removed then it's Jacob's duty to remove it. Basically, having the virtual version on Fakku doesn't prevent people from buying the real version because unlike normal manga, normal non-scanlating people only buy the physical copy because they like having a physical copy of it. Not to simply read it. Thus taking Velvet Kiss off of Fakku to (not really)"force" people to buy the manga doesn't really work.I also wanted to clarify that we did not ask Jacob to take down the material because we had involvement with it. If we thought our scanlation of Velvet Kiss would have caused harm to Harumi, or any other mangaka for that matter, we would be finding ourselves a different hobby to put all our effort into. Jacob having to take down material that's licensed isn't a new thing. The licensing company doesn't even get all the control in the matter, they're also at the mercy of the publishing company who gets the final say-so.
We have no intentions of 'forcing' anyone to buy the manga, and that wasn't a mindset at all, but it is normal procedure to take down licensed material. It may not be something you like, but it's nothing we personally requested for the sake of control.

How about here in the Philippines? And 10 dollars, along with transportation...damn it, the Philippines is not anywhere in the Japanese publishing house's radar!

The Shipping is still too expensive for SG, the shipping is equal to the book itself. I have not bought anything from fakku yet, is there a cheaper shipment rate for a couple of books?
