So what I get from any thread about anime people HATE :evil: filler.
I've been thinking with all the hate for filler and thought up this interesting question. Would it be better to have filler or not have fller at all? We all know filler is nessasary to keep anime from catching up to the manga. That being said thoughts. Oh and please no one say "in stupid voice" No Filler just have the story run all the time!

I'm aware that filler is needed, and I can understand that. All I ask is that filler be somewhat interesting. Bleach, for instance, has some really stupid ass filler now and then, and so does naruto. Naturally, these aren't the only offenders. So if people would just put a little bit more effort into making it, people would complain alot less.

The Naruto fillers just fucking sucked. I mean, really, a year of nothing but dicking around? What were they thinking? -_-

A good anime (or should I say good production staff) can smuggle in a bunch of not_bad_at_all fillers without anyone noticing. I don't mind those.
Still voted no though, since such cases are rare. Usually horrible-quality fillers start multiplying like fuckin rabbits the moment a show catches on to the manga material.
It's kinda ironic that this attempt to keep people interested (and the cash flowing) eventually makes us hate the show instead.

Fillers suck soo fuckin bad, i'd much rather have the anime take a break then having 'em destroy the series with that crap...
Naruto, One Piece & Bleach, i used to watch 'em all, now i never watch 'em (except the high budget fighting ep's), all because of fillers and horrible pacing.
Or actually, the One piece anime has had that since the start so it kinda sucked since the beginning.

I hate fillers, probably the reason why it killed Naruto for me and Bleach is getting there. One year full of worthless episodes for Naruto wasn't appetizing. For Bleach the New Captain Arc barely passed ok for me but it still wasn't too great.
The anime for both series should've taken a season break or something rather than killing the show.

It's such a complex issue, that I'm not sure how to respond.

Unless, you know, anime series based on manga series weren't ever made until the manga series were finished, but that wouldn't make any sense. There's nowhere near as much money in making an anime version of a manga that came out ten years ago and finished recently.
Series could talk breaks instead of producing fillers, but that would be very hard to do. I don't know a lot about Japanese TV, but I assume it's similar to American TV in that a show can't just stop airing in the middle of January and start up again in the middle of July. Typically, those sorts of things are done in seasons, and shonen series don't do well with seasons. That's why most of the long-running shonen series are made into long-running animes and not 13-or-26-episode seasons. If a shonen anime series did take a break, either stuff would be cut out or fillers would still be added so that the show could end at an appropriate time and another series could be aired in its time slot. It seems that Japan hates reruns (not necessarily a bad thing), so a new show would have to fill the time slot, and new shows can't start airing at random times of the year.
Besides, fans of the anime still watch the filler episodes, especially if they haven't read the manga. And no one's going to turn down that money or risk making less by replacing a guaranteed-to-be-popular show with a may-be-popular show, just so some of the fans won't have to deal with fillers. Anime is a money-making business, after all.

filler is okay, just make it good. people are angry because filler sucks, not because of the existence of filler itself.

Pretty much the same sentiment as Das. There are shows out there with filler eps that are actually creative, but those are so rare that when you see the usual filler coming up, it's just an excuse to catch up on other stuff. :P
A good example (in my humble opinion) is the filler episode in Gundam 00 season 1. They recall prior events while having side dialogue that provides some more tidbits of certain groups and then the last few minutes provides a scene that seamlessly transitions into the next ep. But most filler eps in SEED and Wing were just hashed and pointless bull.

I agree, I`d rather have them stop. It is maybe only me, but I tends to gradually dislike a 100+episode anime that has no break (new season after a few months or years). The most recent is Hitman Reborn where I once like it but now Its getting kinda boring.

That's not fair. Some anime series should have over 100 episodes. Look at One Piece - even if all the filler was cut out, the anime would still have well over 100 episodes, because the manga's been going for fucking ever (and may it keep going on for fucking ever, I love One Piece). If anime series shouldn't have over 100 episodes, then anime adaptations of manga series shouldn't be made, but that's no fun. And it's a bad business decision.

The only reason i don't like fillers are because they introduce new characters and waste time with fights not significant to the series.
In my opinion, I would rather wait 2 weeks for an episode than have to watch fillers during the time they they could wait.
Also, what really irked my about the Bleach series filler (and made me stop watching, besides from the fight scenes) was that they tried to integrate the filler characters into the actual storyline.

As long as the fillers provided are either:
1.) Fucking hilarious
2.) Explains a side character's past history
3.) Provides fanservice (usually included with #1)
then I don't really mind them.
I really hate the Naruto and Bleach filler but the recently completed filler arc for bleach I was able to stomach because it provided #2 and was somewhat interesting. Because of the filler though I haven't watched Naruto in about 3 months and I haven't watched Bleach since that last arc was completed. I probably won't start watching Naruto again but I do want to see the Bleach ending when they finally get around to it. Filler isn't just in these 2 anime either. For example Code Geass R2 episode 12: this is most definitely a filler episode but it provided all 3 criteria for good filler that nobody minded it.
@Catcher: I definitely agree with that. Adding the stupid filler characters to the main story is just a big waste of time and degrades the show even more.

Fillers aren't to bad if they're short but if they last for more than 5 episodes then it starts to bother me.
so have some fillers but just not to many but if possible ( even though it's almost impossible ) i would prefer
not to have fillers.

I kind of wished they provided more background story or more in-depth explanations instead of inventing some new half-assed plots to run.
For example naruto could have followed different character histories creating character development like kakashi's background instead of some random fights with characters you know you will never see again.
