Underrated anime

@Shaggy : Crest of the Stars might have gotten somewhat old but I sure as hell hope it ain't underrated/unpopular. It's practically canon material by now and I've greatly enjoyed it and all the seasons that followed.



Considered it while making this topic but it would most likely turn into a Geass/Haruhi/endless_shounen_anime dispute. One of theotaku's recent topics scratched the subject somewhat with a similar results.

True. The ___ of the Stars series are very canon. Isn't underrated in my opinion, though I've yet to watch it.

I definitely agree that Zoids Genesis is underrated, only that the universe it's in is different than most of the other Zoids series. Which reminds me of G Gundam... everybody says that G Gundam isn't a gundam show, but fuck, I liked the series, and I think it was underrated.

I wasn't sure if Crest of the Stars was underrated or not. I just don't hear anybody talk about it at all, and haven't heard people talk about it for a while. Though of course, when I have seen people talk about it, I've only seen good things.

g-money: Yeah, G Gundam is a damn good series, as long as you take it for what it is. It's not the typical Gundam series, but that doesn't mean that it's bad. Not at all.

Talking about Gundam, ZZ Gundam gets a lot of hate, and it doesn't deserve (all of) it. The latter half of the series is damn good, and the first half is pretty good if you can overcome the sudden change of tone. (The end of Z Gundam is very serious, and the beginning of ZZ Gundam is very childish and funny.) I'm hoping that they make some compilation movies of ZZ Gundam in the future, like they did with Z Gundam.

Somehow I think Banner/Crest of the Star could be considered underrated, its a masterpiece yet not known much. I only knew about it during the time I was working in an anime store and my friends usually take the time to watch their favourite anime before closing the shop watches this anime using the shop tv. It took some convicing from them for me to watch this anime.

Personally I like ZZ Gundam, I for one don't understand why so much hate for the series. I really enjoyed the early episodes of ZZ gundam, it was kinda funny and refreshing to watch unlike the first gundam and zeta gundam. Then it must be the reason I stated that makes people hate it. Some people prefer gundam series to use the same formula again and again.

Shin Mazinger Impact! Epic.

I tell you what's an underrated series - Angel Heart. While set in a parallel universe to City Hunter, the anime was nothing short of amazing, great plot, great adventures, and great character development. Totally underrated in my opinion.

Lol - must be something to it since it's been waiting in my 'to watch' list for eons now. Weird considering the fact that those few that did see it, scored is as highly as you do ...
Guess one's show is screwed these days without a good promotional campaign. No matter how good it is.

I think the most underrated anime i've watched was Koi Kaze. I mean, it seems it didn't even exist. Nobody knows it. What a freakin shame. And it even has wincest!! (and I even made a topic aboat it)
Oh shame. I'm gonna put lots of those animes you guys mentioned in my "to watch list". There are some treasures that rly go by unnoticed, and I don't wanna miss em. ^^

Well. I tend to like obscure anime, so this list will be a bit long.

2 x 2 = Shinobuden (a.k.a. Ninja Nonsense: The Legend of Shinobu) - A very funny crack anime about a dim bulb ninja babe, her perverted master, and her best friend.
Animation Runner Kuromi-chan - two one episode specials that chronicle life at a Japanese anime studio.
Assemble Insert - this one is very old, relatively speaking (From 1990) and concerns dim bulb Marion Namikaze fighting a bunch of criminals. Even though it was an OVA, it comes with a live-action commercial that is just stupid, and they mock it.
Chokotto Sister - this one got doomed to obscurity due to its release year, 2006. That's the year the lolli law took effect. (Basically Japan passed a law stating thou shalt not depict characters under the age of 18 in 2005. Since there was a bunch of confusion about the law when it first came out, all nudity was covered up, as it was in this anime.) It's unusual in that there were 26 episodes planned but only 24 made; I've heard conflicting reports as to why (the lolli law, an executive not liking it, etc.)
Cosplay Complex - a story of a group of high school cosplayers. One scene has them in the female costumes from Steel Angel Kurumi.
Elemental Gelade - A sweet love story concerning a sky pirate that finds a yuong woman in amongg the booty he stole. She's a special version of a living weapon known as an Eldel Raid. Poor translation on an early fansub shot this one down.
Gokujo Seitokai (a.k.a. Best Student Council) - Doomed to obscurity due to its genre: an all-female cast in a high school. Rino Rando comes to the school after her mother dies, only to be cared for by the student council President. Died because everyone kept calling it "A crappy Azumanga Daioh rip-off." It's Not!
Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny and Great Guardians - having a lackluster original series, I wasn't expecting much from Ikkitousen. However, I found that its sequels are better than the original series.
Koihime Musou - This one keeps being called a crappy rip-off of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's NOT!!
Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo (a.k.a. Bewitched Agnes) - this one I liked but may not be everyone's cup of tea. Main heroine doesn't want to give up her title as caretaker of a magical town, butshe's becoming too old to care for it.
REC - a wonderful anime about two people in love that share a passion for Audrey Hepburn films. Very sweet, whicm may turn people off.
They Were Eleven - an older movie (f5rom the late 1980's) converning eleven cadets stranded in a derlict ship. they have to get it running or fail their thest. The thing is, they were told there would be only ten of them on board. Fear and paranoia run rapant among the cadets.

Well, like Koihime Musou, I'm hearing a lot of people calling it "A crappy rip-off of Romance of the Three Kingdoms."

Ikkitousen isn't underrated, but it sure lacked a coherent plot among the boobs and panty shots.

As Koihime Musou, I found it to be lacking due to its eroge base. I watched it, but I wasn't impressed, and the yuri action was okay.

I think if you want underrated you should try overdrive, soul link, and ghost hound. I'm not really sure if they're underrated or not but I didn't even know about them 'till I actually watched them.

I stopped watching the anime because subtitles stopped coming for a couple of months. I think the manga is one of the few mangas that caused me to stop watching anime unless the anime is not based on a manga or visual novel (light novels are questionable). READ THE MANGA MAN ITS AWESOME... In my opinion
