which is better dub or sub?

99% sub!!!
only some anime that are only available dubbed i watch dubbed...
I'm used to reading subs cause i don't live in an English speaking country so all foreign movies are subbed

Subs.Dubs are disgusting and so is the guttural English language that can never hope to reach the beauty of japanese.Truly I don't quite understand how dubs fully allow you to comprehend and immerse within the moment and it shuts you off from many of the comedic and romantic values that could only be observed in Japanese or within a translator note, besides, honorifics which strongly influence any anime cannot be abandoned or you lose alot of the sense of the moment and if they are kept, it sounds atrocious and contradicts the flow of the already impaired english.I can understand to some extent leaning towards dubs if you were never exposed to subs but any self respecting otaku or weeb would rather commit seppuku than suffer a dub.

I watch both but nowadays I tend to watch more sub over dub.

Between good subs and good dubs, I prefer good dubs.

Short answer for why I usually go for dubbed is because I get a major headache if I have to read subbed for too long.I'll watch subbed if it hasn't been dubbed but I kinda agree, there are times in an anime where what the character is trying to convey just sounds kind of confusing in dubbed. I think to myself "this probably flows more fluidly and makes more sense in Japanese. Oh well to each his own

Dude you sound like you're preaching to us, chill out. I prefer dub, especially the newer ones, I think the compines have a lot more respect for anime now then they used to, as such the quality of the dubs have gone up. Also without dubs, a lot of people would never have experienced anime, if I'm trying to get a friend of mine to watch anime he'll probably pay attention more if it's in English, just saying.

I am preaching to you XD. While I do concede dubs do bring people to anime, look at the resulting group, narutofags and dubfags that bring shame to our culture by not only utterly disregarding the artist merit of anime via english dubbing but lead to the western stereotyping and warding of anything listed as an anime byproduct by only delving into the most cliche of animes.Those indignant masses of foreigners who fail to encompass anime as a whole are the reason we are seperated for our taste,which generally shy from their bland but popularized selection. The quality of dubs is inconsequential, they will never mirror the picture the japanese language is able to portray.

You're only talking about a single language, Dubbing just refers to any substitution of voice actors. You can't disregard German, Chinese, Spanish and French dubs. Hellsing Ultimate, for example, has been dubbed in German, and it's superior to the original Japanese anime. The Antagonists are all Nazis, and the story takes place primarily in Europe. You can't disregard immersion as a factor in quality.

I'm also not sure where this whole superiority in language is coming from. I know Japanese, English and Chinese, admittedly Japanese is structured better than English. But how can you even say English can never mirror it? what about Mark Twain, Neil Gaiman, George RR Martin, Edgar Allan Poe? Some of the greatest works of literature have been written in English. You were probably referring to Anime specifically, in which case, ignore this.

Was referring to only anime and I only ranted against english dubs XD,english compared to other languages fails to brightly express emotion in simple conversation.O.o now that is simply strange, my point on how dubs fail in some ways on immersion is no where to be found.As for where the superiority of language thought,my common sense and anyone elses for that matter dictates if something was created in mind to be in a certain language it would probably be best suited for that language which is extremely apparent after getting use to the structure of japanese raws

Generally, if it's a quality dub, I'll watch it. I don't see why I should avoid them because they 'don't capture the japanese blah blah blah'. If I feel like sitting back and watching a good episode of Cowboy Bebop, I will. Neither is better than the other, inherently.

Sub, because 4Kids and other fail companys have way too much censorship and the emotion can't even be compared with the sub.

Dub = Don't have to keep reading bottom of the screen
Dub = Intensely poor voice acting
Sub = Glance back and forth between text and animation
Sub = Awesome Japanese emotional voice acting

With a very few exceptions, all dubbed anime I attempted to watch was shit with a huge S.
One of said exceprions is Eureka seven. Somehow, don't ask me how, but the english voice acting staff sounded way better than the original japanese.
I say subbed, atleast until I learn japanese for raw, but meh, I'm to lazy for that.

Honestly, choosing which is better between the two is entirely dependent upon who you're asking.

For me, subs work better for various reasons. First and foremost is that you are allowed the pleasure of hearing the true voice actors portray the characters the way they were meant to be heard. Secondly, subbing an anime is quicker and easier to do than dubbing, so subbed anime are released earlier. There are also more options available to you thanks to various subbing groups, while dubs are usually left to one larger group or company... So if they fuck it up, you're screwed.

Dubs, however, do have a few redeeming qualities. What is the biggest redeemer, you ask? JOHNNY YONG MUTHAFUCKIN BOSCH. If a dubbed version of an anime is released and this man's name is attached to it, I'll at least check it out. I would suggest you do the same. Other highlights for dubbing... Well... If you're to lazy to read it's nice, I guess.

Okay i can understand why in some cases it's better to lean twords the sub. However then you have dubs like Baccano, Hellsing Ultimate, Cowboy Bebop, just amazing voice acting with the VAs putting their heart and soul into their respective roles, I'm not saying the subs were bad but when was the last time you thought of Spike from Bebop and didn't hear Steve Blum's voice in your head, or Alucard with Chrispin Freemen's voice. Some shows just have great dubs, now I do agree anything 4kids did should not be touched with a 10 ft pole but still that's a small amount of anime.

I used to love things dubbed but now I think dubbed anime voices are too exaggerated and they make everything sound corny so I now love subbed. Get to watch anime in it's original form, the way it's supposed to be.

It really depends on the Anime, but in my opinion it's rare to find a Dub that's better than a Sub.
Since I understand some Japanese it's not too big of an issue but that's besides the point.

Some may disagree but one example where Dub was better than Sub was Code Geass/R2.
The voice acting was truly remarkable and the English dubbed laugh of Lelouch clearly had an advantage over the Japanese voice in terms of emotion.
