I want to take a minute to talk about something. This isn't really a full rant but it is something I wanted to mention. Ecchi shows in the last few seasons have been absolutely horrendous. I honestly forgot what they were called beacuse they were not worth my time. Shows that have women gain super powers from being sexually aroused and stuff like that. Shows that clearly set up things just so they can have these borderline rape hentai grope sessions. These series are foolish and I have been very disappointed in them.
Just earlier I watched one of newest ecchi shows to hit the market, Keijo!!!!!!!! They for some reason need to use a ton of exclamation marks but thats not the point im making. I started watching this show waiting to be disgusted by the absurd levels of borderline hentai that has invaded today's ecchi genre. By the time I finished the debut episode I found myself surprised. While the subject nature of the show certainly lends it self to being very fanservicey the show itself seemed to really focus on making the sport of Keijo feel as engaging and intense as possible.
For anyone that hasn't seen the show its about these young ladies who are vying to become prominent Keijo players. The sport known as Keijo takes place in a pool on top of floating platforms. The girls then have to push each other off the platform. The thing is though, They cant use their hands or their feet to do this. This has lead the sport to basically become a lot of butt bumping and boob tackling. The humorous nature of the sport leads to quite a lot of laughs when characters call out special attacks like butt cannon. To be honest though, as I pointed out earlier the "battles" are actually very well animated and even kind of intense to watch.
The ecchi in this show is what I remember the genre to be like in the past. There is for sure plenty of oppai and oshiri for all to enjoy but it is done on a more tasteful level that I thought was lost to us forever.
In short, I am very much looking forward to watching more of this show and perhaps have my faith in the ecchi genre restored.
Tbh i kinda agree with you. Screw those edgy nostalgia-trapped elitists. They're not gonna stop us from watching this anyway.
