I doubt the percentage of people who believe him to be a "stooge" is greater than any other notable figure. My point still stands though; people are not going to start believing that he supports proprietary software unless
significant effort is made - which would extend far beyond a simple blurb.
Not necessarily. See a small blurb is all it takes. For example: Howard Hughes was a person who did many great things, but a small blurb here or there about how crazy he was made people believe that he was a complete loon. He really was only incredibly shy and did suffer from OCD, however, he wasn't a lunatic. But when word got out he was OCD and delayed an entire day's worth of filming on a particular movie just so he could hand sew a dress that he thought "bunched up at the seems" well people started to question Hughes. It wasn't long after some one said something else crazy about him like how he "would sit naked in his bedroom with a pink hotel napkin placed over his genitals, watching movies. He did this for four months" (Wiki). People then believed it cause, hey, this was the guy who did that unconfirmed crazy thing before.
I could now tell people Howard Hughes didn't poop for half a year because he was scared he was pooping out his essence and loosing a little bit of his soul each time. People would say, "Yeah, that sound like Howard Hughes..."

A hentai % eroge site... thats
totally all about the free software movement.
Your statement is either sarcastic or incorrect. If its the former, I fail to see how it refutes mine?
Either you meant that people would not google Stallman because they would already know who he is, or they were too lazy. I would understand if this was a site about computers, but as it is a hentai site I doubt that the majority people would know of him.
If it is because they are to lazy - well then thats just rude.
Also this thread is now about Howard Hughes.
