About to commit a crime...

...and I need to know what the repructions could be and maybe a good alternative instead of commiting this crime.
The Crime: At night when the owner is out I'm going to steal and set loose this bird of his.
Motive: Across the lake from me is a very rich fancy fancy person who has some crazy exotic bird. Not wanting to deny him the great outdoors the owner leaves this bird outside on his deck (I've spoken to him and I'll get to it). Now this bird has a very unique call (Not the same animal as the one I made a post about) which is easy to associate with two cars honking at one another. This call drives my dog crazy who claws at the doors to try to get outside and get at it. Its call alone is very annoying and it does it about every ten minutes for three minutes. I've gone over to the house and asked the owner to shut it up but he refuses called me selfish for even considering making him take his bird inside and lock it up somewhere. I've called the police but they can't do anything about it since THE GOD DAMN FUCKING BIRD DOESN'T MAKE SOUND WHEN THEY'VE HERE AND NOBODY ELSE WILL FUCKING TALK TO THEM ABOUT THE FUCKING BIRD *huff* *huff*
Normally the bird is out for a good portion of the night (Not dark, just late) and I plan to first bring my dog over to a friends then swim over to his house, hop the fence he has, get to his deck then steal the cage away and let the bird loose deep in the forest nearby. I can't let it out near his house because it might stay there, gotta make sure it can't come back. I couldn't care less if it ends up dying on its own. The only thing I'm really worried about is the people next to him have this crazy ass huge lights that light up the whole place. I'm waiting for when hes out and those lights aren't on. I'm hoping he thinks the bird just got loose and flew away. I have no idea how heavy the cage is but its not that big. Worst comes worst I'll throw the whole cage in the water and just stay out for like a whole day so nobody can suspect me xD

not sure what sort of enforcement you have but we have something called bylaw, they can't arrest but they can ticket you for making noise after 11pm... I don't think the police will help you out bro.

No why? I have to swim. His home is on the other side of the lake. I'd have to drive about thirty minutes and leave my car somewhere near his house to get it. Also I wouldn't be able to walk past his house since I'd be pretty wet by that point. I have to swim. I got a canoe but its way to expensive to risk damaging trying to get a bird cage inside it at night.

I'm praying he thinks the bird got loose on its own accord. I have to either get the cage back up there or make it seem like something knocked it over and it rolled down into the lake.

It would be much easier if I just killed it while its in its cage but I really couldn't bring myself to kill it like that. I'm bad with stabbing living things :( To nice.

I'd advise against it. You can always try a lawsuit but that's another load of money down the drain if you loose.

I couldn't get a good look at the cage. I was focusing and I focused and he was staring at the general area I was in.
Hes on the other side of the river than me. If I walk along the bank? I can reach the forest without getting in the water. I have to cut through some peoples property though, main reason I need the lights off.

i like the poison food idea or if your shot is good enough a break barrel .177 pellet rifle with pointed rounds and a good scope would do it but shoot it from one of the neighbors yards the lack of range from said weapon would automatically eliminate you from the list

There was something about killing a Lovebird in Full Metal Panic: FUMOFFU might be good reference material for you.
Cant remember if it used some sort of anti-freeze spray or not but I wouldnt try moving the cage, Use a rubber dingy to get over the river and go about it Delta Force style.

What if someone got tired of your dog barking? Would you be okay with it if someone snuck onto your property and stole/killed your dog?
Anyways, about the repercussions - if the man suspects foul play (whether the bird dies or just disappears), then like rbz said, you'll be the number one suspect. The police will know that you've called them, and the man will know that you've complained about the bird.
If you get caught, you won't get off lightly. The man could charge you with trespassing and theft. Since you say the guy is rich and fancy, and the bird is exotic, then the bird probably cost a lot. That means that he could make you pay for the bird, in addition to any other charges. And if so, I bet the price won't be cheap. Probably over $1,000. Ask yourself - is it worth it?
