Jus popped in my head: what do you guys think about Bolin being the comic relief/ jokester like sokka was? Think he is doing a fine job or not?
I like him but as this will be said many of times, you cant replace the original.
Sokka's comic relief status was more of a personality trait, he was a much deeper character. Bolin kind of feels like a walking archetype, not a person, just "the tolken-funny guy". There's been some attempts to dive a little deeper into his character though. Hopefully they do more of that later on.
They made the choice to have him be latched on to his brother though. Sibling characters will inevitably be compared to one another. If one of them emerges as the stronger main character other will become more of a supporting character. There needs to be a balance between the two of them or Bolin is just going to become Mako's shadow. He doesn't necessarily have to become physically stronger, he just needs to push the plot on his own.
However, both Bolin and Mako are both kind of supporting characters at this point. Legend of Korra is more centered around a single character this time around (as the title suggests). I don't expect they'll push Bolin and Mako forward to much, this story is primarily about Korra.
