i still hold that sentiment so your not completely alone. I couldn't care less if someone worship a cow, a statue, an imaginary friend or the almighty milk jug. Humanity has begun to lose its individuality. Its easier to just join a group and give up the self rather than do it the other way. The sad thing about humanity is. Put two of us in a room and we immediately pick sides and start plotting ways on how to kill one another.
That's the thing, it's not just losing it's individuality that is the problem. It's that, as I stated, the thing people are losing their individuality to are petty and inconsequential connections mostly. The only greater connection that would allow us to maintain our individuality without causing conflict would be to realize that we're all members of the human race, and that is our major connection.
Instead most people (especially those in western culture) seem to have an inside out circle of importance, instead of an outside in. In order for humanity to truely progress our greatest attachments and connections should be to the largest circles of connection, primarily our collective homeo-sapieness. Instead most people have their strongest connections to those things closest to their own bodies (immediate family, local church, local high school, city, etc.), which does make sense. Unfortunately due to our desire to feel less like a spec of dust in a vast universe it will forever doom humanity to a world of violence and conflict over which of these connections is superior.
There needs to be a paradigm shift within the entire human race. One that allows us to feel important and give us a true sense of accomplishment and pride to call ourselves human. Currently most people get that feeling more from saying "I'm a Star Wars fan" or "I'm a Yankee Fan" then saying "I'm a human". Which is mostly due to the fact that EVERYONE on this planet that you can talk to is human, and thus it doesn't allow us to differentiate ourselves from those around us to make ourselves feel superior.
Your final statement would be more accurate if you said "Put three of us in a room and one will immediately pick sides with the one they feel is most similar to them and start plotting ways on how to kill the other one." Because of this the best way for humanity to actually evole and realize how important our connection as humans is, would be for us to have something to unite against as a whole, such as something silly like an alien/demon/robot/evolved monkey invasion or something. Because nothing like that exists at the moment, we tear each other apart instead, and find divisions within ourselves that shouldn't be important.
Erm...yea...soo.... /rant off.
