Desertion?

I am not sure how I managed to scare people with my supposed "put on a smile and be nice" thread.

It appears that some of us have different views on how the forums should thrive. Personally, I would like Fakku to attract new members, especially those who would stay and contribute, but I believe flaming would give these potential members a negative impression of the community. On the other hand, there are some like Animeholic, who view flaming and spontaneous thread-making as fun, deemed crucial to the retention of regulars, which I see nothing wrong with.

Ultimately, a balance has to be struck.

Being on FAKKU and IRC for two years now, I've seen my fair share of splits and merges of the comunity. To make a very simple and very quick case for IRC, I shall take time out of my morning schedule to make a nice little post for you all.

RS once split from FAKKU.net, but most of its users came back. The ones that didn't have already been replaced by the constantly moving userbase. There will always be other groups 'threatening' how busy a site is.

Over the time FAKKU was down, IRC reached 82 users. Considering the userbase here, it shows it could be very very busy in IRC if people bothered to talk. I used to attempt to cultivate conversation, but now my time is short and my to do list long, so I just pop in and greet the odd user. Now, I notice that most of you have done the "I'm in IRC for 20 seconds, if there isn't any activity I can call it dead". That's not really the case. Right now, the only chit chat is older users. As a huge userbase, you could easily overtake this. It's the offical chat client of FAKKU, I'm not sure why you'd want to try anything else. One thing that people may have complained about was my 'moderation' of the protocol. I just kicked and banned whenever I deemed necessary. I haven't banned anyone in a long time. You guys have no reason not to attempt to flood IRC. Think of it like a newborn baby. There aren't any really really active users in there right now, so all we need is a fresh surge of about 100 users. If only one of you come, then it's going to stay dead. If lots of you come in and really give it a shot, we'll all be happy to talk.

Think about it a little before you try and say "OH BUT THIS ONE HAS THIS OVER THIS". Just give it a shot for, lets say, a week. If you've still not bumped into anyone, after giving a few tries at conversation, we'll call it a failure and try and spruce up some of the features.

Oh, and to address ImperialX: "Chatroll instead of IRC is due to the sheer amount of trolls and noobs in there. Also, Chatroll allows the users to upload pictures, links and videos, which is something that IRC does not allow."
The only users who get on IRC are regulars, forum moderators and others. Noobs make up a large amount of this community, so don't disown them. Trolls are either regulars being normal or trolls that haven't been banned yet.

Ever heard of Universal Resource Locators? Commonly referred to a URLs. They can be used to share pictures, links and videos. Even in places like IRC.

oh dear god that's a terrible idea Hibia, please don't invite the masses to IRC. I always though of it as a secret place where I have the best conversations and because of the perception that it's dead or filled with troll helped keep that secret safe. Everyone should ignore Hibia's words and continue with your daily lives.

No need to worry about chatroll anymore, it's dead now since fakku is up and running now ^___^. I officially deleted my own account on chat roll as of 10:00 am this morning.

You really don't need to delete your account you know. Now the Chat roll Can't die Officially, because no one has the ability to delete it...

Like tsuyoshiro said, I can still post in FAKKU, Update the game master list and do a lot of stuffs in FAKKU, while chatting in there.

i've noticed the deadness, too. it almost seems pointless at this point to post. i still come here because i love the people. but something is missing here at fakku. it's less fun, and a hell of a lot lower key. a lack of people? posts? flaming? i don't know. something's missing and we need it back. i will continue to frequent this wonderful place 'til it no longer exists, if that day ever come. (i hope it doesn't)

edit: part of the problem is that people's posts lack the evil fun factor they once had. it make me less able to come up with a witty response.

People just need to start having more fun with posting like tegumi. Stop trying to act like a good guy and set an example because that example is FUCKING BORING. Have fun, flame, make funny photoshop shit, insult, make fun of noobs. That is what we no longer have.

Also argue with people. Don't be afraid to. The Console wars thread was fucking awesome while it lasted. Seriously some of the most fun I've had. It was fun calling out idiots mistakes. Maybe we don't have enough opinion threads anymore. The tough question to answer thread was fun till people stopped posting in it.

No not at all. Random youtube videos are amusing and serious discussions are nice. The only time I LOL tho is when there is an idiot or like Vinylsnake a troll that is actually amusing unlike freenadia. Other then that what do you find exciting on this forum? The awesome meet and greet?

I find it pretty exciting when people don't act stupid. I also enjoy having arguments with people who don't keep re-visiting the same point over and over despite the fact that we've moved past it. Throwing tomatoes at the retards may be mildly amusing, but in the end I prefer to converse with people who know when they should not act like a buffoon.

I actually thought about bumping it just 2 hours ago, but then i saw that the advanced search ain't working yet, can't be arsed to plow through all the pages looking for it by hand.
