I don't judge people by first glance, even if it says a lot,
I was mainly posting in response to this statement. Now that you have clarified that by judge, you meant treat differently, I understand it better. But you said you did not judge them at all, which is the passive act of simply gauging what you think they may be like, which is mostly subconscious and largely uncontrollable.
Even still, 99% of people still treat people differently based upon what they learned from judging them in the first place. As in, maybe you would talk more formally and politely if someone was dressed in a suit or a uniform, or if someone looked like they were the same obscure ethnicity as you, then you would feel closer to them right away and be more open. Just little stuff like that, but it's something mostly subconcious and wired into our biology, so when people say they don't do it (I'm a psych major) to me it usually just sounds like people trying to pretend they are unique snowflakes who are just saying it so they sound cool.
I agree with you totally on your first paragraph. I phrased my statement wrong, which I'm well aware of now. True, if I met someone, and depending on how he or she looks/acts, I might treat the person with the response that I think is most appropriate. But once you get to know the person better, one begins to treat the person differently in order to cope with better understanding of the person after the first glance. By knowing a person better, it necesitates a change since your first response will no longer be adequate to respond to the person again, unless you want to purposely piss the person off or something like that. But it remains in my philosophy to keep my assumptions and expectations low when meeting a person because then one doesn't get hurt/shocked later. It's hard, but I try to live by it. Makes relationships flow easier.
But relating back to avatars, I truly do not think that avatar's affect a person's image since the issue of identity pops up because we're dealing with the net here. Nothing can be taken at face value until further investigation.
