because the Internet makes them earn more money? Even through DA they sell prints and stuff xD And those that draw anime/manga characters often draw manga and sell those off to their fans. It's all about getting people to know you then they'll buy your stuff.

I always wonder about sadpanda, like how do they have room for all that crap? I know that once I upload something, I usually don't see it again. Heck, I've upload the same pictures over 3 or 4 times.

Meh, the way I see it they should actually own the copyright to the images. Don't go to DA if you want to be a serious artist you are wasting your time and a lot of effort.

Yeah, but what other options are there? I only know a few artsites that will let you show off your art. The next is making your own portfolio and webpage but you still need to advertise yourself. And it's not like just because you draw like a queen that you'll get published right away

I just think that people shouldn't assume that when they post original art work on a free public website that their artwork isn't going to be used and circulated without permission. Especially when people surf around DA. If Marvel and DC are battling with people stealing their comics and art online, what makes them think they should or are going to be protected?

Sadpanda doesn't have this problem does it? I don't think you can browse through the images if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, the reason we came onto this topic with sadpanda is that on their front page they used an image from DA. Some pandas cuddling together if you give me a moment I can find it I actually have it on my fav on deviantart xD

Well not to be the bad guy, but who is to say that this user actually created that image instead of just coloring it? I don't know. I hate assuming. Probably why I shrug off people who complain about copyrights. Who really wants to go through the hassle of proving who actually created/owned a given piece of art.

Reminds me of someone complaining about an artwork they did on Hentai Foundry a couple of years ago. He claimed he drew, and colored it himself but Aeris Dies put it on their site and put their logo over it. He got pissed and tried to contact them demanding that they take it off. As far as I know, it is still there.

I think I would take it as more of a compliment, but I guess it is the principle of the matter.

The person has 155 artpieces with over a million people visited her page without an artthief flame. That's kind of how one tell, and often they have these events if you screenshot their pageview when they hit a round number: 10,000 or 20,000 and so on. They call it Karibian or something, and the winner get's to request an artpiece of something, like a panda holding a heart with a frog on his head and the person draws it xD

In most cases people have a special artstyle, or soemthing that shows them to be who they are so finding art thiefs is quite easy, because if someone stolen the art it is somewhere else online so others have seen it. But when you draw something you add it right away and not make it pop up on google 4 weeks before DA.

edit: and as for lineart, alot of people post line art and people color them. Which if the person who made the lineart says it's alright to use it and post it it's legal to do so if one credit. I had fun with such once upon a time too, but yeah those that do that can end up in trouble if they do it without asking. But its the same with making signatures: use a render from an anime and if someone sees it they can report it and it will get taken off the site

That's what decimated my gallery a couple of years ago. Most of my artwork was anime signatures and other things, but since I didn't explicitly own every piece of the artwork I used it was all deleted. I think at one point 80% of my gallery disappeared overnight. I was pissed, as well as thousands of others, and haven't really been to DA much since.

It was just DA trying to cover their own asses, which I could respect, but it was majorly unnecessary. Almost all the artwork out there, that has to deal with anime, isn't completely created by the person in question. It is unrealistic to think it would be for all cases.

It'd be interesting to see what would happen if Deviant Art actually fought for those copyrights. DA versus Gelbooru. Heh, kinda wonder who would come out on top there. I suppose DA would since they do have some level of copyright on the image, but still.

Oh, that happened? That's awful. I honestly Love making signatures but I only post photographs on deviantart.
